Yeah man. Totally just a run of the mill head covering. That’s why the super fair skinned woman is wearing it and not the Arab woman. Oh wait.
Again, you are allowed to see what is actually in front of you without feeling like you are “obsessed” or something. Like this shite is obvious. You don’t get brownie points for being so above it you don’t see it.
It’s fine. It was just a thing to point out a lot of the intentions of the show runners.
The inexplicable ethnic variations are far more distracting. For there to be Indian family in the Two rivers that would mean that in a place where India doesn’t exist, all of the Indian people would exclusively mate with each other repeatedly over and over again

Let me put it this way...

If you're just looking for reasons to complain, you'll find plenty.

The wheel of time is a concept shared across several religions with Indian origins.
Fantasy is free to borrow from our world when it's convenient.
Did you complain when Game of Thrones showed us societies that were clearly advanced enough to build massive stone fortresses and walls, but couldn't figure out how to make shite flow out of their cities and had a mostly illiterate populace?

I hate woke shite as much as anyone, but this doesn't seem like a reasonable hill to die on.
(this is not any type of show spoiler, just LORE that has been discussed in first 4 episodes, specifically in 4)
In this universe, the Aes Sedai scourge the entire continent/world for channelers, both male and female, so they literally come from all walks of life/cultures/religions/races. As they've stated already in the show, their goal is to round them up and bring them to the White Tower for training. The Red Aes Sedai is already recruiting Nynaeve pretty hard to join the reds. They've also spoken at length about rounding up male channelers to be brought before the Amerlyn Seat (Top ranking Aes Sedai).

I agree dude. This would strengthen my argument that this world has the same, regionally specific, and geographically driven and consistent ethnicity groupings.
Which would make the grab bag method even more bizarre. It’s also odd that they would be like, “brown people do brown people shite regardless of the universe…here’s a hijab….now….here’s some curly sideburns for this Jewish lookin dude.”
In episode 4 they stumbled across a family that had an almost Persian looking father and his children were freaking Swedish looking. Now those in this thread, will say “maybe they were adopted!” Whatever guys.
I’m just saying, this show goes between saying “anybody can somehow live anywhere, even when no one else looks like that there and they claim to have lived there for generations AND their parents appear to be of the same ethnic origin meaning somehow a small minority family has maintained its uniqueness over generations” and then randomly “any race of person can somehow pop out of anyone like people are a bag of skittles”.
That second one would actually be the more woke version but also kind of cool and allow for just straight up random casting.
But the world simply doesnt maintain any sort of consistent cohesion.
I’m also not “dying on a hill”. Im simply maintaining my well-considered point and responding to inadequate rebuttals that dont account for my original complaints.
World-building is awesome. In the end its what most of us like about these stories. And if we are going to act like anthropology isn’t like, one of the foundational aspects is odd.
The hijab (which it clearly is, and if you are going to post pictures of habits that clearly dont look like that I’m not sure what to say lol) is just a lazy. It’s also not really my main gripe. More of a laughable side bar.

What have you got against skittle people?

I know you're being sarcastic, but I agree with what he's saying.
For the White Tower, I expect them to "look like the UN" as some people have criticized. They are women from all over the land. So even the Hijab thing isn't that big of a deal. It should be one gigantic melting pot of all the cultures in the land.
What is jarring though is that (so far) every village has almost a mathematically-precise correct mix of races and ethnicities. It just feels very, very artificial and forced.

Look for my comment earlier and you'll see I agree. Hollywood is gonna Hollywood, so I realize this and then move on.

I actually follow what you're saying now.

I know there's no readers allowed, but can someone please explain how/why the Children of the Light dudes, who go around killing Aes Sadaes, are allowed to roam the land within sight of the White Tower?
I mean, that's pretty frickin bold.

Aes Sedai we’re fairly patient with the CotL if I remember correctly.
I don’t believe that that occurrence happened quite that close to the White Tower in the book.

Just finished episode 5. I feel like it was a waste of an hour.

they have about 10 bad arse stories they can tell and they spend 30 minutes on the dead warder... why
You have perrin who has some sort of connection to the wolves which is being shown and egwene who has channeled for the first time and we spend more time watching people beating their chests at a funeral, wtf man

Children of the Light have a lot of power and influence, and even have the ears of some kings and queens. They also have a massive army of some of the most well-trained soldiers in the world.
Aes Sedai aren't even allowed to live in some places.

During the course of the books, no spoilers, it is straightforwardly discussed and lamented by some of the more pure of heart COtL how unfortunate it is that they must use large numbers of armed men anytime they roam outside of those countries/Kingdoms in which they hold sway, and how much more effective they would be in delivering the Creator's message if they could travel in small numbers, missionary style, and were welcomed rather than feared/spurned.
I get the impression that the Children's original mission statement was an admirable and pure one, but that, like all human endeavors, decayed into a largely self-serving power structure over time

Thought this was the only WoT post on this board, sorry - I've only been posting on the book board and just saw the other thread jump to top of page.
