That sounds like a hoot! Book puritans again are the worst when it comes to films.

Hence keeping it in that thread.

This is a happy place.

I watched the first 3 minutes of the first episode and stopped it.

It did such a poor job setting up the series and was so vague that I was like I rather watch Lost in Space season 3 than this crap. And I have tried 3x to watch s3:e1 and quit the last time with 8 mins left.

Seriously what a confusing unnecessary storyline they just throw out there.

I mean this show smacks of SJW propaganda.

ETA
I got to the part where the women on horses were chasing the men on foot. They were yelling stop stop and the men were about to make it to a narrow pass and they used magic to bring the cliff down. I was like BS. Why didn’t you just use the magic to lift those SOBs up in the first place?

I love the theory that Perrin's wife is a darkfriend. At about a minute in to this clip she's got the hammer raised over her head to strike right as Perrin accidentally kills her.

I had not even realized she was holding the hammer like that when he killed her when I watched it the first time. The action of that scene immediately goes to his killing of her so you don't really have time to consider if she's armed, much less what she's doing with that weapon (especially considering they had just survived a fight of their lives against the Trollocs). That makes for a very interesting theory.

yea I didnt really notice that either. I guess im not really sure what a darkfriend is either. if they were friends of the trollocs why wouldnt she just have killed him when they were all fighting? I guess darkfriends are another faction separate from trollocs or the theory doesnt make much sense.

That one surprised me almost as much as the dagger popping out of her throat.

The answer isn't (and shouldn't be) a spoiler but I don't want to ruin the process of discovery for some of the viewers who would rather that. I'll start a thread for those with questions which can be answered without giving much (if anything) away.

Middle Ground Thread

Right, except the character who got the most development ended up killing himself. That is a big waste of time.

The ogre was interesting but I thought his dialogue was terrible.

I finally watched episode 5. I wasn't in love with the funeral scene and that guy's story, but the Ogier is spot on. Loial is perfect.

Speaking as a guy without book knowledge, I would say that's VERY MUCH a spoiler topic as of now.

I have ZERO IDEA who the "dark one" is, why anyone should fear him, serve him, etc.

We've SEEN ugly minotaurs (trollocs, I guess). Uglier face-sucker guys- Fades? Fates?- that seem to be commanding the trollocs. But nobody seems that concerned about them. Logain dude was more worried about conquering a castle full of medieval soldiers, and converting them to his side. Aes Sadai witches are focused on guys like Logain (and I guess our heroes). White Cloaks seem bent on eliminating Aes Sadai witches (and having bad hair, and generally looking like nerdy MTV villains).

Nobody seems to give 2 fricks about the Dark One, or mounting a defense or attacking the band of trollocs. They're just 'there', and apparently not considered much of a threat. I mean, we have seen 2 small communities (one attacked by the trollocs) that nobody appeared the slightest bit worried. We've got a band of gypsy hippies peacefully roaming the countryside with no desire to defend themselves, not terrified about the concept of a band of marauding monsters.

We've had 1-2 mentions by Moraine, we've had the one bartender chick, we've had the one older guy who helped Matt and Rand.

Egwene answers why they wouldn't be in the very first episode when she sees them. "What are those?"

So, about that:

Ok, Egwene is unaware of what they are at first. But her question is answered very quickly...
they are 8 ft tall, physically grotesque man-beasts that are wielding steel weapons (indicating significant intelligence), travel in a large group, and was in the process of killing everyone in the village until Moraine, the Aes Sadai witch who just happened to show up a few minutes before, stopped them.

That's enough of an answer for me to consider them. Like I mention, they have weapons... so it's not like a random pack of wolves or bears. This is an enemy with technology on a par with my own.

Secondly, the bartender at the next town mentions wanting to go out and see the world, including trollocs. This doesn't surprise our hero: he doesn't ask what a trolloc is, how she would know of them, etc. Also doesn't ask why she'd want to see one.
Maybe he's just horny or whatever, and doesn't care what she says. But I'd think if he didn't understand a word she'd say, he might ask. And if he DID understand that phrase, he'd be suddenly alarmed by the mention of creatures that just ravaged his home. "Why would you want to see THEM? They're terrible".

Also, the other folks' responses. White cloaks stopping and questioning travelers. Hey, we're fleeing a pack of marauding monsters a few days off: "hmm, ok, we should go after them". Yet not enough to stop ol boy from continuing his questioning the next episode.

Yeah, the Gleeman explained a bit what they were (very briefly). Basically servants to the dark side. Pretty culty it sounds like.

For those interested in the History and Background of the Universe:

Amazon has finally made animated shorts called Origins available on your TV/Prime app.

Previously they were only available for each episode through the xray feature on a computer or handheld device.

Each episode has one, and they cover various pieces of background or history of the world that should help some people.

Looks like another filler episode with the purpose of showing us more homosexual couples. I would like to see them spend time advancing the story rather than scoring woke points. I can't believe this has already been green lighted for a third season. I am losing interest.
