I’m in the “Big Hand for the Little Lady” crowd.

No “the gambler” (1974) or “Killing of a Chinese Bookie”?
List is shite

I can sure as frick tell you it’s not 21. That film is fricking trash. Casino Royale should be in before that one.

Yeah, the Gambler with James Caan was my first and only thought when I read the thread title. The guy who made that movie was an actual gambling addict and a lot of it is autobiographical plus real life gamblers often cite this movie as the only one that really nails it when it comes to being a gambling junkie. I think James Caan has said it is his favorite too (either movie or role, I can't remember). Awesome flick and a good representative of the 70s independent film movement.
The remake with M. Wahlberg is best avoided.

One of the worst: The Gambler (2014).

The Sting and The Hustler seem like obvious candidates
Are all the films pictured in the OP from the last 25 years?

If The Sting is applicable then so is David Mamet’s House of Games.

Not the best, but “the Cooler” is a underrated gem

Hasn't been made yet.Not until they make a movie about this guy: Titanic Thompson

The guy who Damon Runyon had in mind was probably Titanic Thompson. Sam Snead called him “the greatest hustler ever.” Minnesota Fats called him “the greatest action man of all time

No The Color of Money?
I love Rounders though. Rounders has flaws, but the cast was stellar and a very culturally impactful movie. The dichotomy with Rounders is it both promoted poker and gave everyone a thought that they could be a great player. After ppl starting watching that movie and ESPN was highlighting WSOP, every numbnut thought could play. Best gambling movie? Maybe not. But still my favorite.

I bought and read every book seen in the opening.
It didn’t work…

Hard Eight is an underrated one. Might be more hustler than gambling

Just watched.
This movie is cool and interesting, a good off-night watch, but I wouldn’t call it anywhere near the best.
