Actually the book had a greater impact on me as well. Still my favorite book of all time. The first dog dying was bad enough but the circumstance surrounding his other dog dying put it over the top.

Not sure why, but at the end of Friday Night Lights (movie) when the dick dad of the TE takes off his championship ring and puts it on his sons hand and hugs him, I'll admit it really got me

Gotta say the last 20 minutes of "Field of Dreams". Spock's death in Star Trek 2, but then again, I'm a Trek geek.
