When he stands up to Barnes in Platoon was so badass

He KILLED it as Klaus. The scene where he doesn't understand Steve's instructions and crosses the line always kills me
Haha i know that scenes great. Wes anderson is a master of those awkward moment scenes.

My favorite Dafoe roles:
Born On The 4th of July - Charlie (wheelchair vet)
Shadow of The Vampire - Max Schreck
Platoon - Sgt. Elias

Love him. He’s almost always my favorite character in anything he does.

Platoon was hackneyed tripe. It was every Vietnam War cliché rolled into one script. Only Hollywood could celebrate that crap movie as some kind of artistic achievement.

He's fantastic in White sands.

Point is that you don’t need to be 6’4” with muscles to be intimidating. With Dafoe, it’s his believable facial expression, voice and delivery that does the trick.
And his Milton Burle level hog.

Don't know about his best, but the first thing that pops in my mind when I think of him is Last Temptation.

But also Raven
glad someone else is old enough to remember this one! I can't argue against Elias, Rick Masters, or really any other choices but Raven in Streets of Fire is where I first saw him in 1984 and he made an impression that has lasted since then
worth going back to watch for the younger crowd if only for Raven and Diane Lane was a smokeshow at 19
but then she's always a smokeshow - probably worth a separate thread but can't think of anyone else who's aged as well as she has over the years

Togo is a good movie if you all have not seen it

I have - good one.
Dafoe is one of those who I'll watch any film he's in just for him regardless of the subject matter

Togo was great and makes me irrationally angry that Balto gets all the credit
