Das Boot destroyer encounter

This scene needs to be on there as well. Couldn't find with the subtitles. But this is the greatest submarine movie of all time.

Probably more shocking than tense. Have you ever watched the red wedding reaction videos? Not funny, but funny.

After that scene is when I was like dear god this is some incredible writing. Two days after that I went out and bought the books and read them in a month. Probably read them 4 times now.

Speaking of submarines, I guess the setting lends itself to tension pretty well. But U-571 had some intense scenes as well.

It is the boat dinner scene in Jaws where Quint describes surviving the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. It is one of the finest pieces of dialogue delivery ever captured on film. Anyone that proposes something in lieu of thus, I’m sorry, but you’re just wrong.

This is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time, I’ll watch it anytime I stumble across Jaws on TV, but I don’t think it’s tense not like the opening of Inglorious Basterds

Rust scene from True Detective when he infiltrated the biker gang and had to escape from the projects.

Man so many good answers in this thread.

I think the most tense scene for me in the show is when they come over the hill and see the meth house that has the young girls in it. The first time I watched it and they looked over that hill and the dude was in his underwear and wearing that mask, I for real got the chills. The score to it was perfect so it made the scene even better.

Lots of great ones here. I’ll add the bathroom scene in Full Metal Jacket.

Edit: Nevermind it was already posted.

re-entry scene in Apollo 13 has me on the edge of my seat even now after watching it about 50 times.

Great scene and I’d also put up the scene after the explosion up there. Moving from the main ship to the lem was stressful to watch.

One of my top 5 all time movies. Love the score in it too. Ed Harris Tom hanks bill paxton Gary sinese were all fantastic in it

Tops for me would be:

Jaws- Quint sinking of the USS Indianapolis
Deer Hunter - POW Russian Roulette
Saving Private Ryan - D-Day beach sequence
Lambs - When the lights go out on Clarice in the basement

My most recent and absolute: Chernobyl; when the guys go in, door sealed, and the flashlights fail with the increasing dosimeter sounds, and breathing...fade to black...only dosimeter sound and heavy breathing.
