I lean left and I didn’t like it, either. Not because of the ambiguity, but because the movie really didn’t say anything. Not even War is Hell. Those reporters were having the time of their life covering it. The people they came across didn’t mind killing each other. Just a wasted concept

They tried to make the sides ambiguous, but let's be real, it's Hollywood.

They had a Dick Cheney clone as VP (then President) utter the words "we were wrong, I was wrong" regarding climate change and illegal immigration all at once in The Day after Tomorrow. (2004)

And of course, the President at the start of the movie was made to resemble Al Gore.

Hollywood simply cannot help themselves in their election denial, but that's fine.

If Garland really wanted to meet this moment, a more interesting version of Civil War would have been to see it this way: since 2000, the American people have been rising up on the Left and the Right to protest what has become an oligarchal government, no longer of the people, by the people, and for the people. But a system designed to preserve the power of a government that has become too big to fail.

Alex Garland might have made a better movie if he understood what this moment is really about. But how could he if no one in the mainstream, or inside the bubble, will tell him the truth?

My bad, but I will never stop conflating Boyle and Garland.

You want him to trade his bubble for your bubble, chief.

It's okay, you are just stuck in 1984 and instead of 2 minutes of hate you've been brainwashed with 8 years of it.

It's fine that you just copied and pasted someone else's opinion, even if that person does seem weirdly obsessed with Rob Reiner and Joy Behar. But that opinion appears to come from someone who did not watch the movie, and it reads as completely idiotic.

didnt they hint that the president disbanded the fbi? i think that makes it pretty clear who they are portraying him as and plain as day that the movie itself is a warning.

You are just quoting someone else’s opinion article backed by absolutely nothing but his thoughts, not sure what that article proves other than this one guy thinks it’s about Trump.

Am I taking crazy pills? Someone else said it’s about Trump because he got elected to a third term and now this guy says it’s about Trump because he disbanded the FBI…. Trump hasn’t done either of those things so WTF are you talking about?

The dude banned non state media, took complete control of the government, and restricted a ton of constitutional rights, wouldn’t that align more with the big government party and not with Trump?

They told me this movie wasn't woke, but it has a Trimp-ish evil boss character and Jesse Plemons shooting all of the darkies. Definitely not woke.

Oh, and it's the slow grooming of little girl in the cynical journalistic arts.

I never said he did this. He has not even begun to serve his second term yet my boy. I said this is something he has eluded to doing and people have picked up on from context clues in the things that he says. I saw you misinterpreted someone else’s post on the next page so maybe try reading the posts instead of seeing what you want to see. Hope this helps!

It’s a huge reach to claim that Trump has alluded to this, and since he has and this fictional character did it the character must be based off him.

authoritarian

seemed kinda obvious

the point of the movie was to illustrate the horror of war, not to bicker about which side of politics is morally superior, which is why he left it ambiguous

He made Texas and California allies in the movie to let the audience know that this wasn't the current US

I finally got around to finishing this film last weekend.

I say "finishing" because it took me 3 or 4 attempts to get all the way through it without falling asleep.

With all the political tension in the U.S. it was a huge disservice to not make the sides apparent in the movie IMO.

It’s actually kind of incredible they managed to make a civil war movie set in America and they managed to leave the viewer not even caring to choose a side.

I'm sorry but this doesn't makes any sense

You admit the political tension in the US, but then want them to create more by forcing people to "pick a side"?

Oh wow that one quote about winning proves, WITHOUT A DOUBT, that the President in Civil War was based off of Trump. You’ve totally convinced me

I just watched this for the first time about a week ago and it didn't seem to have a political message at all that I could detect, definitely not a partisan one. Basically it was about the fighting and some media people trying to get to Washington

Lulz

The movie was written within 2 years after the corrupt 2020 election (btw there are still 5M voters missing from that election and the 2024 results)

1) The first scene depicts the prez talking about the greatest war victory in the history of war. Thats textbook on how they fact check everything Trump wants to brag about
2) That prez disbanded the FBI. Because Trump fired Comey
3) California was the coalition that took him out. They added TX to make it believable. Plus its their wet dream of permanently controlling elections by flipping TX
4) The prez was in his 3rd term. Something the left always accused Trump of planning
5) The prez was wearing the signature Trump red tie when he was shot at the end. Other presidents are mainly blue tie wearers
6) Then the massive wall around the white house. What other prez would 'build the wall'?
7) Add the 'American' forces shooting foreigners. Also, a racially charged Trump platform from the left

There wasnt much hiding the politics. You just didnt want to admit it. The point of the film was that the US was saved from that future, because they justifiably cheated Trump out power. It saved lives!!

Little did they know
