Lol? That bitch going out to work for a paycheck? Stay at home for sure. Never worked a day in her life. She went out and bragged to the whole neighborhood that her husband had enough cash to fly 15 people to Paris, 4 of which being First Class, which is why none of them took a long distance call from Paris just assuming she was going to brag.

Unless he's the VP of Sales at some company, no way. He was pretty high up in a company.

You guys ever heard of the Chicago Board of Trade?
Movie was set in its heyday. Surely assumed he's that or an exec at one of the many massive companies in Chicago.
But I agree, we'd be talking executive suite level. Even your standard director or VP couldn't pay for that many people to Paris.
Also ironic he was bitching about how much the pizza cost.

I watched the movie last night, and I don't think they are as rich as we think they are. As someone here pointed out, it was Peter's brother who flew the whole family to Paris (Kate tells Harry this when he comes to their house dressed as a cop). They live in a huge house, sure, but I'd be willing to bet that they're just keeping up with the jones' while swimming in debt. When Kate is trying to convince the old couple to give up their seat on the plane, she reveals that she's wearing a fake Rolex.

Correct, the McCallisters are notorious new money types. They live way beyond their means. Peter is in Sales but he only pulls 150-200k/year. While a nice salary, not near enough for the lifestyle Kate and the children have become accustomed to. Not enough to float Peter's constant urge to show his club buddies he's on their level as well. Kate has racked up loads of cc debt since retiring from her .....job to "raise the children," ha more like throw them on a bus then hit mimosa brunch and shopping on the Magnificent Mile all day.
Proof of this not only lies in the fake rolex, but also in the flight situation trying to return to Chicago. Peter/Kate ask the American Airlines desk clerk about a private flight. If Peter was truly that high up and could actually afford to live in that house, he is well versed in the tenants of private aviation. While he likely would not own his own plane, his company would, and as a high level executive he most likely would have access to it. As well as access to a fleet of charter aircraft. His company would surely bend over backwards, knowing their situation, and send the plane to pick them up. At the very least their new money asses should know to call Netjets or another charter company instead of asking a commercial airlines ticket agent about a charter.
Its astounding Kevin was able to tie his shoes, let alone thwart the malicious dealings of some would-be burglars, growing up in that family.

I’m watching this mother and just wondered this myself. Search the web and TD was the first hit.

Dad had to be an executive of some sort. They had money. Keep seeing on Facebook people asking about that. Not sure why it’s a big deal that they were rich.

It wasn’t fake. She didn’t want to give it away. The old woman was being presumptuous.

There's so much weird back and forth regarding money in that movie that it's impossible to know exactly how rich these freaks were.

What is the purpose of blocking the house on street view?

Makes it harder for gawkers to locate the house (even though the real address is used in the movie).

Uncle Frank is portrayed as a cheapskate, but I’d be willing to bet he is in more sound financial shape than Peter.

They live in Winnetka which is an extremely rich area.

Winnetka (/w?'n?tk?/) is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States, located 16 miles (26 km) north of downtown Chicago. The population was 12,316 as of 2019. The village is one of the wealthiest places in the nation in terms of household income. It was the second-ranked Illinois community on Bloomberg's 2019 Richest Places Annual Index.[3] In 2020, 24/7 Wall St ranked Winnetka as the second-best small town to live in the United States.[4]
quote:
The median income for a household in the village was $207,955, and the median income for a family was over $250,000. The per capita income for the village was $105,575 in 2015.[16] About 1.8% of families and 1.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.6% of those under age 18 and 2.0% of those age 65 or over.
It’s tied for #1 in towns of 10,000 to 30,000 in medium income per household.

Rank City State Median Household Income (2019) Population (2019)
1 Hillsborough California $250,000+ 11,447
1 Winnetka Illinois $250,000+ 12,428
1 Short Hills New Jersey $250,000+

So you thought the entire second film Kevin was lost around his hometown?

Four first class and 11 economy tickets from O‘Hare to de Gaulle would cost between $25,000-$45,000 today, depending on when you go.

In fairness, NYC would be a pretty big home town to get lost in.
