The movie makes total sense. It's not a confusing or convoluted plot. It's linear and straightforward...

That doesn't mean it's good or you should like it if you don't, but I don't know what you want want put in there to make it less confusing.

Eta: But that reminds me, follow me on Twitter where I'll be yelling at Warner Bros to give the ghost of Stanley Kubrick $80 million to release the totally existing 6 hour Kubrick Cut of Eyes Wide Shut. Supposedly gives the viewer 2+ hours of exposition you didn't need to understand the movie, as well as an extended orgy scene so that you'll subscribe to HBOmax.

HBOmax - "Guys, marketing would be so much easier if we could just sell porn to the trolls."

My only critique is the dialogue when he's at the secret society party. It's forced and cheesy. It felt very out of place for that type of film.

What you’re missing about it is the story is 100% true and Kubrick was killed for it.

Why didn’t they kill him after using him to fake the Moon landing?

Kubrick hired Hitchcock to fake his death.

The biggest question on the film has always been the 20-24 minutes cut from the final version, and Kubrick's ultimate vision/statement/message.

Have we ever seen these minutes?

“The Mysterious Work of Stanley Kubrick”

Watched last night because of this thread. That stuff makes the movies make more sense, if that's really what he was trying to do.

I had an uncle that was an engineer at NASA in the 60's. He abruptly quit his job there in the 60's because they were, "Doing things he didn't like."

If he was still alive, I might ask him about the moon landing story. Not sure how long after he quit that he died, but he did die at a very young age. He was from Louisiana.

That could easily be b/c he was pissed the original Apollo 1 crew died in a preventable accident. LINK

I have no issue with the movie in general. There are many many movies out there that leave you with a WTF did I just watch? This isn’t hardly the worst of those. Quite frankly I am just surprised that the Hollywood powers that be actually signed off on it being released even with any parts potentially being cut.

It's Kubrick. Not sure if any other director has his track record of putting out classic films.

Rob Ager has a bunch of great Kubrick videos on youtube if you really want to go down the rabbit hole. One of the most interesting ones related to EWS EYES WIDE SHUT was nearly a Steve Martin comedy. Would it have worked?LINK

Awesome I’m glad you watched it 58. I learned a great deal about “Lolita” and the moon landing of which I’m very conflicted. I’m not ready to say it was all faked but those three astronauts were definitely freaked out when they “returned home to earth” and held that first press conference. You can blatantly see it on their faces. They either saw aliens up there, were uncomfortable about lying about going there, or something else sketchy NASA was doing. I wish Buzz Aldrin would come clean before he dies.

Wayne, the Hollywood powers that be and the ruling elite and the Hidden Hand are way past and beyond giving a good goddamn if you or I know about their doings. “They”, whoever they are, have all the bases covered. News media, DOJ, both houses of Congress, military, Vatican,......etc. Ok so now you and I know that they do those evil things Wayne. Wtf are you or I or any other powerless peon gonna do about it? Yea exactly.

Neither would I especially not in public. But if by miracle I was face to face with Buzz Aldrin right now with nobody else around, I would as respectfully as I could with my high school education ask him if everything is on the up and up.

I recently gave this film another shot after viewing it once many years ago.

IMO...

What is this film but for a movie that attempts to be a masterpiece probing the deep conflict between dark desire and responsible conscience but instead is nothing more than a shallow observation of bored, self engrossed people trifling a dalliance into self indulgence, portrayed with stunted acting and a wandering, aimless story?

CSB: My friend's fiance was an extra in this movie... you can see her tatas in the orgy scene.

Recently rewatched it since it’s been airing on Showtime.

I forgot how horrible Nicole Kidman’s drunk/stoned acting was in this movie.

I’ve had a long-running protest over this movie for digitally obfuscating all those dingalings.

I've never seen it. I never really planned to see it. But I do have one question...

Do we see Nicole Kidman nekkid?
