Over-simplification rocks!

Simply pointed out what you did (oversimplify) in order to justify calling Bridesmaids a chick flick.

This is sort of my take on things. I think getting your panties in a wad over whether Bridesmaids is a "chick flick" says more about the reviewer than the film. If a movie is good, it doesn't matter if its a chick flick. How dare Hollywood make movies which will appeal more to 50% of the world's population?

I'll never get people flipping out over a movie that focuses on women. Sex and the City was an abomination not because it focused on women but because it sucked.

Bridesmaids is a comedy (which I haven't seen yet). It should be judged pretty much solely on one criteria: did you laugh? Whether it had female themes or relationship stuff is irrelevent, really.

This 100%...who cares who the target audience is as long as its enjoyable

Not all of his movies are the same. Some, like Funny People, are too long and try to get too serious with the dramedy business.

As much as I love Judd Apatow, all of his movies are too long. They're all hilarious, but tend to drag with too much emotion in the last 3rd.

Add me to the list of people who think this movie sucked. A handful of laughs in two hours does not make a movie awesome. That so many people liked this movie makes me sad for the future of cinema. The more people that go to these turd flicks, the more they will produce.

The fact that there weren't many (or any) likable characters in this movie make me think that most of the people that loved this movie have some issues of their own and feed on watching others in misery.

They should have just named this movie The Bridesmaid. If the others had been in the movie more it probably would have been funnier.

Yeah raunchy chick comedies with extremely vulgar humor. We've got tons of those.

Did you remotely think that through?

Yes. I wasn't referring to this movie in particular, rather the overall premise that if you throw crap up on a screen and people flock to it in droves, then that's what they're gonna keep throwing up there. The standards are quite low these days. How hard is it to come up with a shitting your pants joke line? Not really. Try a little harder to come up with something kind-of original next time. But then again, should I really be surprised at the lack of any originality out there when every other movie coming out seems to be a remake or a sequel? Oh well...

I didn't think this movie was funny at all but I really have a hard time finding women funny. The fat girl was the only one remotely funny and i would classify her as more guy then girl.

She was my favorite.

I saw this movie today with my friend. I was having the shittiest of all days when we left to go to the movies and I really just wanted to cry. But I did end up laughing a lot more than I usually do for movies. I thought it was cute. More of a rental though.

Saw it last night with my wife

Too long
I asked my wife during Wiig's death spiral "where are they going with this? Cock Baby? Seriously?"

More virgin newlywed and old hag interaction would have been great

Less Wiig and Helen drama would have been great

Example of poor editing: did we really need the Wiig cupcake scene? The premise of her baking talent was already set. That was 5 min of screen time for literally no reason.

I can agree with this that we didn't need that scene, but Apatow comedies typically do have self indulgant scenes. Typically the first 2/3s of his comedies are hilarious, but focus almost solely on the drama in the last 1/3, and this is pretty much the same.
