Vertigo is getting the remake treatment...

Something no one wanted nor asked for.
Arguably one of the greatest movies of all-time, directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock, and starring Hollywood legend Jimmy Stewart. Now it's being remade by Robert Downey Jr. and Steven Knight.

Just waiting on a Jaws remake with an all female cast at this point. They've remade most of the other movies once thought untouchable.

Forget Vertigo...I want to see a remake of High Anxiety.

Downey and Steven Knight are intriguing. I probably won't watch.
Luckily, none of us will be forced to. Hitchcock riffs are a constant, even when they are uncredited. No one freaked out when Disturbia nakedly ripped off Rear Window. No one freaked out that Sydney Sweeney's The Voyeurs naked lying ripped off Rear Window. We can ignore these, and we will be fine.

Ripping is not the same as remaking. And there have been some great films that have come out over the years that have been inspired by Hitchcock movies. Sticking with the Rear Window theme, 2007's Disturbia with Shia LaBeouf is an excellent example of a film using Hitchcock for inspiration.
There's a reason why you don't remake Hitchcock. See Gus Van Sant's Psycho with Anne Heche and Vince Vaughn for an example of people freaking out over a remake.

This shouldn't have had to be said, but...

I agree with you, generally. One of my favorite movies from 2022 was Park Chan-wook's (Oldboy) Decision to Leave, which sets itself up as a riff on Vertigo, before diverging in brilliant ways.if that movie had been billed as a korean remake of Vertigo, it would have unfair expectations attached to it.
I want to be clear that I think a straight remake of any Hitchcock film is a bad idea. I don't understand any filmmaker or actor would want to invite comparison to one of the few unimpeachable masterpieces ever made.
I do think Vertigo is thematically rich in a way that could support different directions and interpretations. I think the guy van sant remake of Psycho is an unfair comparison point, as a shot-for-shot remake is a wildly stupid idea, especially if you want to make a compelling remake of a movie that relied so heavily on its mid-film twist. Van sant's debacle should not be held as any kind of standard. Honsetly, the sequels to Psycho are a more intriguing way to approach that story, though they are wildly uneven.
But I push back on your Disturbia take. Disturbia is a straight remake of Rear Window, but with YA trappings, and really stupid. It's made more stupid by the fact that it's such a naked forgery of Rear Window without acknowledging that. If that had been called YA Rear Window, it'd be the same. It'd still be stupid, if inoffensive.
Again, this is a bad idea, and we will be fine ignoring it.

It should take an act of Congress to get permission to remake a classic like Vertigo.

In the remake will the Kim Novak character be trans?

I doubt he’d give a rats arse considering he made The Man Who Knew Too Much twice w/the original in 1934 and the remake in 1956. Several of his movies were remade during his lifetime as well.

I watched The Man Who Knew Too Little again the other night. Never seen the too much version.

As much as I hate this, hopefully it will lead to more people seeing the original, one of the greatest films ever made.

Modern hollywood is desperate and it's frankly getting pretty fricking pathetic.

nothing will touch the original...But De Palma has already ripped from Vertigo or had inspiration from it in two movies-Body Double and Obsession. I'm sure there are more out there

Watched this and Rear Window with my high school and college kids during Covid.
They loved both movies.
The new movie won’t be nearly as good.
The kids were surprised at how sexual the rear window was for the time it was made.
