has anyone seen this movie?

its pretty weird, but its a decent sci fi space movie if you see it listed on TV.

every now and then they show it on TV

i suggest you dont expect to take anything seriously about it and just watch it as a fantasy sci fi flick.

quote:

In the 28th century, due to cooperation between the Earth and extraterrestrial peoples, the former International Space Station has been expanded until its mass threatens to cause gravitational disruption to Earth itself. Relocated to deep space, it becomes Alpha, a space-traveling city inhabited by millions of species from thousands of planets. A police division is created by the United Human Federation to preserve peace throughout the galaxy. Among its staff are the arrogant Major Valerian and his partner, no-nonsense Sergeant Laureline.

the movie was very enjoyable entertainment, but honestly the thing i remember the most about it is the changeling stripper dance routine.

I’ve enjoyed it on a couple of hangover days.

Dane DeHaan is fricking atrocious in it though

Decent movie but terribly cast.

ETA:The male lead at least. Just not buying that scrawny kid was some sort grizzled space ninja badass

I actually liked it - not as good (obviously) as his Fifth Element, but not shabby either.

The two main characters are pretty shite actors. Other than that, it’s alright.

It was kinda a precursor to the current "woke" movement in casting.

This is how the comics are described:
quote:

stories present Valérian as a typical square-jawed hero figure, who is strong and dependable
So, they cast this

It was really disappointing. The visuals were great, and I appreciate the effort to adapt something people weren't familiar with, but it was badly written and poorly cast. The trailers looked great, but the movie just didn't deliver.

What idiot ever decided that that Cara chick should try her hand at acting? She's horrible in everything.

i agree, no way its believable that dorky guy was some elite super soldier and was the ultimate ladies man smashing everything in sight

if they just changed him out for any other actor who was believable as a bad arse, then it would have really elevated the movie by a lot

he alone being so poorly miscast, was a major drag on the movie

I agree that she can't act, but Cara Delevingne is hot to me. I like those skinny model girls.

But yeah, she can't act for shite.

I think I have seen it twice and still don't get the finer details of the plot.

I liked it. Stand by my opinion of terrible casting for the main characters though.

the two main characters were like a super elite seal team super agent types that did stuff regular people just couldnt get done.

the story was a creature that multiplies anything you feed it like diamonds or jewels and it also craps out marbles that are some type of super powerful energy source. so feed it an energy marble and it craps out 50 more energy marbles and you have the ultimate never ending renewable energy source, thats why they want it so badly.

the rest is kept muddy on purpose, so it doesnt really need explaining, the core story plot is about corrupt military leader trying to hide and cover up an act of genocide he committed to exterminate and entire planet and race of people to steal the source of its energy

It was better than I expected it to be. Half decent, to be honest.

But also, Ready Player One was the movie Valerian wanted to be. I saw a lotta similarities.

Uh, what?

They're both scifi, I guess. But as I remember it, Valerian was set in the real world, in the future, and had actual alien creatures.

I'd compare Ready Player One to Free Guy. Valerian, I'd go with Fifth Element, GOTG, and a fair number of B movies.
