I always took their fight as having a couple motives. I think if the chance came, Obi Wan would have killed Vader. The liklihood of that being the case though was very slim. Secondly, he was definitely stalling Vader so the other's could escape. With his presence there, he new Vader would concentrate on him and not the rest of the shite that was going on.

I don't think he necessarily planned to go out like he did where he did, but once he saw Luke, he knew that was the right time.

I also always kind of thought Obi Wan wanted Luke to see Vader strike him down. Motivation for Luke to rise up and defeat Vader/Emperor.

Could be that he was trying to stall Vader long enough to allow the rest of the group to escape.

Or so Luke could witness his death?

That was definitely an added bonus, however the way he smiles when he does see Luke, it really always gave me more of an "ah ha" kind of feeling. I never really felt like going into it that was his main plan. I think it just worked out well and Obi Wan realized the opportunity and took it in the moment.

Couple of lines I wouldn’t have included, but overall great.

Plus is you watch the original, Vader hesitates for a second and is actually a little anxious. Like he knows something’s up.

Everyone wants these guys to fight like they are in their 20’s. I like how the original fight played out. Both where older and slower, but the main problem with the reimagined version is Vader is too aggressive. He was always afraid of ObiWan. Vader was powerful but limited. Even at his advanced age, obiwan was a match for Vader given his strength in the force. They were evenly matched, but ObiWan was playing a long game. I think he was stalling Vader so the big 3 could escape. He knew he had beat Vader, not by striking him down, but by motivating Luke. ObiWan miscalculation was that Luke decided he could not kill his father in the end, although it worked out.

I liked the way it was also. Vader wasn’t going to just slice through Obi Wan like he did the space merchant marines.

This is still cool though. I’ve watched it 3 times now.

Luke really needs to lay off those high and inside fastballs.

I won't argue this point with you, but why put up a fight at all?

Maybe you could look at it as the whole fight was just to buy time for Luke's escape. In this scenario, he needs to fight longer to buy more time.

And it just looks cool damnit.

That is awesome. Could you imagine how legendary that scene would be if it was like that in the original

Crazy that people can make shite like that

Were these just fan boys? I don't get how these guys can make this stuff for free as a hobby, while film studios claim these films cost over 100M to make.

They need to hire guys like this to make the films.

Teenagers made Ryan vs Dorkman 13 years ago

I remember one of these guys ended up working of the tv series Heroes, and then they used him for a force awakens but not TLJ.

Damn, aside from the voice over call backs this is the kind of special edition update I can support.

When you do it for free as a hobby you can take as much time as you want and don't have to worry about things that may be rough around the edges (Obi Wan's face in parts of this aren't fit for release) or changes that need to be made midstream b/c something isn't working.

This stuff is time consuming and if you are going to hit a certain release date you need a shitload of people working all at once in order to get it out in time. Just rending the effects out take a good long while. Just look at how many people work in visual effects during the credits. Effects companies bill out every single person's time. The more effects needed, the more people are put on it, the higher the cost.

You also need to take into account that we are looking at this off a YouTube stream. There's no telling what the quality would be if it was blown up for the various types of theaters it would play in. What looks good on a computer might look horrible when it's blown up to IMAX size.

I meant more along the lines of why didn't the fan boys make OB1 do like 150 back flips to avoid Vaders onslaught? Why didn't vader force grab 100 laser blasters and have them all fire at OB1 and OB1 does some sort of helicopter saber deflection avoiding all shots?

The implication is that these people stayed within the confines of lore to create an intense and believable fight between two force Masters. Its almost like the Jurassic park quote

quote:

your scientists (effect artists) were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, that they didn't stop to think if they should.

fan boys should write the scripts and fight scenes... instead they seem to hire people who dont give a shite about the universe and make shite up because they think its cool.

I remember an old star wars interview with Lucas after new hope and he described his vision of a "dirty space", the falcon is beat up and dirty, not everyone is in some pristine uniform. But then 20 year later he pushed the whole clean space, mirror finished space ships, and elaborate costumes.
