I guess Bourne is only a spy in the sense that he used a cover name and he planted evidence to make people think he had a higher head count in order to draw out a high profile assassin.

I don't know anyone who read the books that thinks the movies did the character justice. They were popular simply because Damon was a hot ticket at the time. Movies simply left half of the books out.

One of the spied gets stabbed to death through a fence… like there is a physical barrier there and she gets knifes to death.

Bourne nailed the chick from Run Lola Run. And I'm NGL she kinda did it for me...BUT:
Bond slayed OT 10s on the reg.

Bond is basically a rogue agent sent in to foil a plan by any means necessary.
He gets a 1 minute briefing by M
(just to set up the plot) and then is sent on his way to infiltrate the "evil-doers" gang. If he gets any information along the way it's from the CIA and Felix Leiter. Bond is NEVER collecting information and reporting it back to SIS. 90% of the time they don't even know what he's doing or where he is.
