Unpopular Opinion Alert: Ethan Hunt is a better spy than Bond or Bourne

Yeah and almost of all them die too. Though if I could have spent a night with Plenty O’Toole it might have been worth it.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with you because I’m still trying to digest and think it all out but I will add

Ethan had a full team behind him in almost all situations

Bourne was chemically enhanced

Bond had a government behind him and many assets but still mostly played the game solo

ETA: I’m guessing this is a spin-off from my mission impossible thread? A few weeks ago I did a thread Rambo vs Dutch vs the cat from The Hunted and I assumed a lot of people would pick Dutch and they did but I think John J won out with the most picks in the end. I’ve actually been considering a similar thread Wick vs Bourne vs Hunt but minus Wick I think this thread covers the topic

Bourne was 100% only an assassin, that is what the program was for. They were brainwashed killers used by the CIA to kill assigned targets. They were smart and could gather intel on a target or evade capture. But they didn't engage in spy craft.

Bond's 00 designation is his license to kill. He is even called an assassin by several adversaries. I said he did do spy stuff, but he was mostly about taking out the megalomaniacs and banging hot chicks (which only 50% ever survived) First girl Bond beds in a movie will probably die. He spied to get intel on his target, and before Specter i don't think bond ever brought a villain in. He killed them and foiled their world domination plot.

Hunt, is similar to Bond in that his missions are over the top (one might say impossible), but he does more in the spy genre of collecting intel for the purpose of intel alone, or protecting information. He uses disguises and hides his identity (Bond walks in the door in 90% of his films and announces himself as Bond). Yes he sometimes kills the bad guy, but only because he has to in order to stop the world ending device with 1 second left.

Goldeneye showed how great of a Bond he could have been, but then they went and poured all the cheese on the rest of his movies.

Bond is more of an assassin than he is a spy in the movies. Very rarely is he in the intelligence-gathering business. He's usually blowing stuff up, killing evil people, or a combination of the two.

So the question is, if Ethan Hunt or James Bond were spying on Jason Bourne and Blackbriar and all, would either of them be able to do it through Bourne without being killed by him.
I'd put my money on Bourne taking them out.
