This is literally the gayest movie trailer ever

LINK

quote:

This fall, Universal Pictures proudly presents the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They're both very busy.

From the ferocious comic mind of Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, 2019's The Lion King, Difficult People, Impeachment: American Crime Story) and the hitmaking brilliance of filmmakers Nicholas Stoller (the Neighbors films, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Judd Apatow (The King of Staten Island, Trainwreck, The Big Sick), comes Bros, a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about how hard it is to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.

Starring Billy Eichner, the first openly gay man to co-write and star in his own major studio film—and featuring an entirely LGBTQ+ principal cast, including Luke Macfarlane (Killjoys), Ts Madison (The Ts Madison Experience), Monica Raymund (Chicago Fire), Guillermo Díaz (Scandal), Guy Branum (The Other Two) and Amanda Bearse (Married …with Children)—Bros is directed by Nicholas Stoller from his screenplay with Eichner. The film is produced by Judd Apatow, Stoller and Joshua Church (co-producer Trainwreck, Step Brothers) and is executive produced by Eichner.

Even the writing about the gay movie is gay

Pssh.

The Birdcage "came out" in 1996.

The highly homoerotic thriller Brokeback Mountain "came out" in 2005.

I guess they're really parsing their qualifiers carefully here:

first romantic comedy
from a major studio
about two gay men

Movie trivia aside, it's a no from me, dog.

Yeah, this has no hope of being that funny.

What is it about this current generation, especially in Hollywood, that makes them so desperate to be the "first"?

It's mentioned more than once in this article. First *openly* gay man to *co-write* and star in his own movie.

What's next? "First power bottom to write, star, and suck a dick on screen in their film"? Let's hope not but it's probably coming.

Best picture nominee ?

It’s certainly met the Oscar’s new quotas for diversity

I feel like In and Out kinda tackled a better version of this story many years ago. Why do they keep pretending gay characters didn't exist until now?

Money over everything. Do you not even USA. That is literally the only "agenda" anyone has. If they can make a profit off it they will produce it.

Surprised this movie isn't going straight to a streaming service.

Seems like a big risk releasing in theaters and putting box office dollars on record.

I still think they will dump it on a streaming service at the last minute. This probably won't even break the top 5 if released in theaters and they don't want the optics of audiences rejecting the movie. On a streamer, they can BS about how many people actually watched it but in the theaters there's no hiding from reality.

Gay people should be represented in film, but studios think WAYYYY more people are interested in stories just because a gay person is in them than there actually are

Tell an interesting story. We didn't watch Boondock Saints because it had a gay character, it was because it was interesting.

Go back further than that, it was a remake of a movie from 1978.
