I don't know why I even come in this thread anymore. It's not worth reading at this point.
This is what almost every single thread about a show has become here.
They are all people looking for reasons to tear down a show. Every single fricking one. GOT, Mad Men, Arrow, etc etc etc.
Come October all we will hear about is how shitty The Flash has become.

come on
this season of TD deserves its criticism so far
can it recover by tying all this together? I certainly hope so as I'm going to keep watching
obviuosly some of the criticism is over the top but most of the criticism in this thread is legit

So was last season, yet the plot was great. I'm well aware that a show called True Detective will in fact be about a detective or 4.
Agreed, although I would still argue the plot was the main focus last season. Character stories can enhance a show, but this feels more like individual character stories with a side plot.

Don't part in other show threads, but this show so far is absolutely awful. And it's not just TD.com, other forums I've read think the same thing. The scenes are poorly written, the acting is bad (even VV), and I literally have no idea wtf is going on in the show anymore

hen she was shooting her gun in the same scene, pointing it directly at the ground. WTF
And saying "frick" over and over.
Cringeworthy would be the understatement of the year.

yeah i mean there is nitpicking and then there is valid criticism. the problem is volume. the same general criticisms are being levied in this thread, just by the vast majority of people. for this board, that's telling. usually there is dissent and differing opinions
example: true detective season 1 (the last 3 eps)

i can tell you in words the descriptions of where everyone/thing is at, but speaking generally about the plot? no clue what's going on
it's very jumbled and underdeveloped. that's my biggest issue with this season (and the biggest contrast with season 1...the second biggest contrast is how every character is dark, broken, depressed, and speaks like a russian author in the gulag, with no normal people...an exact 180 from last year)

no doubt
its definitely all over the place
but there were plenty of posters asking why they were even going to the Mexicans and how was McAdams at the shootout when she was suspended last night, which makes me think that a lot of posters are too worried about posting sometimes and not actually watching the show

well every show is going to have some idiots discussing it. GOT is mind-numbing with all the stupid questions. why the hodor thread is unreadable

I'll admit that I fell asleep last night for about 15 or 20 minutes of the episode. During that 15 or 20 minutes, these two points were explained. I was woken up by the gunfire.
I just re-watched the episode and it made sense. However, the shootout at the end seemed even more underwhelming after a 2nd viewing. I also feel like a IRL police team going about a raid like that (walking casually down the street to the building) would be labeled incompetent.

that gun fight was pretty good.
But the highlight of the show, as it has been all season, was the overhead establishing shots of the Los Angeles interstate system. really quality work.

I agree that was explained, but the connections between the doctors, the mayor, the mayor's dead ex-wife, and the daughter really confused me. It may have been explained in this thread, but I have no idea where that fits in.

Had the shootout occurred on Sons of Anarchy it would have been business as usual in Charming 15 minutes later.

Last episode was hot garbage.
Still no point to Kitsch's character.
And it was blatantly obvious the raid was a set up once we saw the mayor in on the meeting.

The reason people are having a hard time following this year isn't because of the plot/story. It's because every episode is so damn bad and boring that it is almost impossible to keep paying attention.
This season is fricking terrible. I almost feel like every scene is trying to parody S1. Without Fukunaga, MM, and Woody, Pizzolatto has been exposed for the awful writer he is. If HBO decides to keep this terrible show going, they better either fire him or force him to have a writing staff. We all should have known how doomed this season was when production kept getting delayed, they had a tough time casting theses roles, and HBO dumped it into its summer lineup thus removing it from Emmy consideration.
Truly pathetic all around. HBO, Pizzolatto, and the cast (sans Farrell) should be ashamed.

We wanted the plot to be the main focus last season, but it really wasn't. NP is doing the same thing this season as he did season 1, which is write a character study, driven by a murder investigation. Thats why the whole conspiracy of season 1 was never really wrapped up, yet we got a bunch of philosophical mumbo jumbo from Rust during the last episode. To be honest, the characters in season 1, while much better than this seasons, weren't anything extraordinary either(this season has some really crappy characters, which season 1 didn't have either). It was the performances by MM and harrelson that really made the characters better than they were.
NP came up with some interesting concepts for both seasons, be it the yellow king or the corrupted city of vinci. The only problem is he really sucks as a writer and is trying to force something that he really isn't good at. If there is a season 3, HBO has got to tell him to NOT go for another character study, and just do a traditional whodunit murder mystery.
edit- i agree 100% with what dallastiger says

I think I may have to give you that one. I think that's why many people (including myself) felt the show dropped off the last few episodes.
