Place looked rather plush for a city worker of Vinci

watched this last night
first impression is that it's decent, but I need to rewatch. I think I will end up liking it more, it's just all so cloudy at the moment.

So I watched the first episode last night. I don't feel as engrossed as I was when I watched the first episode of the first season. First impressions aren't always everything in a series like this and I'll definitely watch it all.
Couple things I didn't like that just seemed kinda odd and badly produced: one was Farrell's character going beat up the kid's dad with brass knuckles (no one would do that) and the second was Taylor Kitsch's character getting up to 100 MP on his bike, turning his headlight off, then turning it back on, losing control and NOT dying or wiping out at that speed. It was just...not good.
Otherwise, I owe it to Season 1 to keep going and it wasn't a bad episode...it just wasn't Woody and Matty good.

I wouldn't put it past someone like that to beat up the dad of his kid's bully

quote:Man, I could be wrong, but I think we're gonna see a different side of VV by the end of this, totally ruthless and willing to do anything to get his.
VV seems genuinely concerned for CF. He seemed really bothered watching CF destroy himself with the drugs and alcohol.
You don't get to the top as a crime boss otherwise.

I agree completely
he wants to go legit, but once things don't go his way, he is going to revert back to his old ways

Of course Vince Vaughn's character is concerned for Collin Farrell's character... that's his inside man, he doesn't want to lose that connection. He wants him stable and with a level head.

He's been riding this pony for what, 12 years now? I think he understands that CF is not a stable individual. But, that's why he keeps him around...to do the dirty work.

Maybe stable isn't the best word... but he needs him working in the sheriff's department.

Definitely.
I enjoyed it much more the second watch. Give it a shot.
Fat Dad is going to be a KEY player in all of this. Buckle up, it's going to be a fun season.

Yeah, rewatching is definitely a good idea

I hate that he had me believe he was a good dad, then goes batshit, calls his son who's already getting bullied a fat pussy, then severely beats a man with brass knuckles.

Rachel McAdams charachter is not very likeable. Kinky, grew up in a screwed up family environment

That's funny...I really like McAdams' character.

I get a big "Heat" vibe from the LA setting. Which is good for me because I love "Heat."
although I did love the setting of the Louisiana low country in season one. just more familiar to me.
I need to re-watch. but I think this is going to be good. A lot more characters and moving parts to this story. It will take 2 or 3 episodes to have it unfold.

I thought the same thing when I first heard it, but I re watched the intro last night, and it grew a little on me. Cohen songs usually do that for me. I think I hated the song last year too, but by the end, I loved it.
It's pretty bad, IMO. I think it's more grating than 'Animals' the Orange is the New Black song.

quote:Read up on the real life town of Vernon, California...there's been a couple of links in this thread, but it's easy to find with a Google search.
The location is part of the problem. It's the same sun-drenched LA we've seen a million times. There's no mystique to it.
Vinci is baesd off of Vernon, I'm pretty sure the location is important to the story and will turn out to be very interesting.
