What did yall think of the intro music? I wasn't a fan of last year's but it really grew on me hard a few episodes in. I really didn't care of yesterday's at all, to the point where I'd say I almost hate it.
yeah, i thought it was shockingly bad. felt like some youtube video with a random song over random images. didnt work for me at all. liked the music throughout the episode quite a bit though.

I love Cohen's stuff, so it worked for me.

It reminds me of the head of the Egyptian god, Horus.

After reading a detailed synopsis of this episode on another website and rewatching, i feel better about this show.
I was more confused by this episode than last season's premiere. At first i thought the motorcycle cop was colin farrell in a flashback.
That woman floating in that stainless steel bowl of milk was interesting.

Didn't find any of the characters likeable. will give it the 3 episode rule.

I thought the same thing when I first heard it, but I re watched the intro last night, and it grew a little on me. Cohen songs usually do that for me. I think I hated the song last year too, but by the end, I loved it.

Gave the episode a second watch and have some thoughts...
I believe it's likely that McAdams' fat hippy dad is connected to Caspere and could be involved on some level in funneling women into sex trafficking. The missing girl is tied directly to the institute, a place where lost souls go seeking help and are open to being very vulnerable. Quite easy to brainwash and prey on.
Think about it...Dad's been phasing himself out of his role there, only making occasional appearances. What has he been up to? He was also very dismissive of the exploitation of his own daughter's sexuality. Also, in his "Final Age of Man" speech he mentions seeing the world as meaningless through the eyes of God...(hmmmm...Caspere?) And we all know Pizzolatto's take on the seedy underbelly of religious veneration from season 1.

One of the Vinci police higher archy has to have a bigger story line.
It will probably be a Lieutenant or another Detective. So, it will be one of the middle archy in Vinci P.D.

I wouldn't call him likable, but I'd say you get why he's fricked up. Farrell was strong in episode one. I hate his costuming though.

Dad suffers from the "he's too big of an actor, so you know he's got an important role to play" foreshadowing.

I read a blurb that said the show had become self-aware; the characters talk is if they know they're on True Detective. After watching the season opener I'd have to agree.
The location is part of the problem. It's the same sun-drenched LA we've seen a million times. There's no mystique to it.

i'll disagree with this, they are featuring a part of LA probably never seen in movies or tv. After the first 20 minutes or so i was really perplexed as to why the southern industrial part of LA was the focal point, but by the end of show it made more sense as the scenery really fit the mood of the show. Granted, it didn't have the same supernatural impact as the bayou did in season 1, but it was kind of reminiscent of the grittiness from the movie Se7en.

It still looks very much like Los Angeles, with the cinematography trying to emulate the first season and it doesn't work.
