It's not a term paper where a teacher is going to deduct points for going off topic or explaining things unrelated to your paper.
no it's not, but it's a group of datapoints that are out there to be judged/analyzed. that's a major problem with the overall product

A show like this needs filler. It's a good way to keep the audience guessing.
that is basically a cheap trick and should be held against it, if we're looking at this as solely a character study
it's a bait and switch at best

And something's were left unexplained.
a whole lot was left unexplained. like i've said for a while now, if i told people after episode 2 that none of the major points of the mystery would be resolved except a couple of names of who was involved, they would have quit the show.
i haven't seen this much of a collective change in viewpoint since Lost, and that says a lot

you can compare TD to LSU football. i have high expectations and when they aren't met, it sucks. add on people defending the mediocrity and trying to mold it into some form of being so that they can claim it did meet their expectations, it triggers something in me. always has, just like LSU FB (although i've stopped giving as much of a frick about that over time due to all of the frickups...just like i will with TD season 2 i'm sure)

The point went over your head.
your point was a square peg trying to fit into a round hole

The point is the story.
obviously in this case, it wasn't

I'm just gonna assume it is his dad. Why he was chained to the bed, no idea.
The fact that it could have been his dad and his mouth was sewn shut leads you to believe Errol may have been punishing him for trying to make him stop the public displays.

Why must if be efficient if every episode was enjoyable?
Posted on 3/10/14 at 4:28 pm to SlowFlowPro
Well that wont happen because the fat man is a genius
Posted on 3/10/14 at 4:28 pm to Lester Earl
i feel like the episodes (and draw of them) ended up being a bait and switch and/or a complete tease
that's not enjoyable when you look back on it...not to me (although i can see how if you get wrapped up in it, how it can feel great at the time)
i just got a call that i need to pick something up at court. i'll be back in a short bit

to make a comparison, if the fat man died today, i'd quit...and i certainly wouldn't continue until the end and then claim, "oh i was much more concerned with the character study"

How could anyone that watched the first 7 eps of this show have anticipated a nicely tied bow at the end with hackish footage of perp walks of big wigs framed under the guise of TV news coverage?
That was never, ever going to happen.
Ever.
They put out red herrings and dedicated time to them and never closed them out. I never expected them to do so. It was going to stay tight around Rust and Marty and their part in closing out their part of the story.
Marty said it himself at Rust's bedside. We were never going to get them all, but we got our guy. We finished our part of this.

with all of the unanswered questions and all of the rushed/magical detective work in the "present", i was not wrong
It didn't feel rushed to me. The guy has been obsessing over it for a while, but he finally got another pair of eyes on it.
And I could really care less about what the rituals were for, or the other laundry list of things you wanna know. Would it make the show that much better if you knew every freaking detail? Either you're a miserable SOB or you just want to appear to be more sophisticated and harder to please.

This is what I'm talking about.

or let me ask: do you think we needed 8 hours to tell the story of these characters and show their minimal development
Jake. it's a tv show. It's not a term paper where a teacher is going to deduct points for going off topic or explaining things unrelated to your paper.
A show like this needs filler. It's a good way to keep the audience guessing. No, all the leads didn't work out. And something's were left unexplained. But that is how police work is. In the concept of the show, it filled that void & was also immensely entertaining at the same time.
I honestly thought I was over analytical. But holy mother of god, you take the cake. Where are you getting this energy from?
Nicely stated.

That's the product of jumping around 20 years of storyline. It never really bothered me. I think there was really only 1 subpar episode

Start picking out your victim. GRRM is going string this bitch out for the $$$ and then croak before he finishes.

btw, you ruined these True Detective threads for me.
it's hard to read with your insistence in every thread.

Gets the deserved "C'Mon Man".
I think I could write a book on your neurosis I've seen the last decade.
I truly wish, that even with your obesity, you live long enough for someone to examine that incredibly faulty melon of yours.
