the "true detective" in this series wasn't Hart and Cohle finding the serial killer or exposing the cult, it was about them finding themselves. Plus, the up and down journey of life before reaching contentment.

That could be it or it could be Rust for not giving up after 17 years and what looked like a solved case.

I think the guy on the bed is the mummified body of some dead family member, maybe his dad.
The guy on the bed was not mummified. He was also not too long passed.
Couple of days maybe.
That's what I can't figure out.
The DOB on Erolls's dad was 1944 so he'd have been 68.
The guy looked about 68.
I'm just gonna assume it is his dad. Why he was chained to the bed, no idea.
Also, I took a couple of screen captures of the dead guy on the bed scene on my iPad to try and read some of the writing on the wall. In doing so, I noticed the guy's mouth was sewed shut.

This, combined with the many peoples' inability to handle that.
i think people can handle it, but they wouldn't have watched the show had they known the mystery would be Lost-ized
that was the main draw, and it left people either changing their tune or disappointed
*ETA: i tried to tell everyone they wouldn't wrap up the story...a long arse time ago

I'm glad it was more character driven
you're not upset at all the wasted time?
the story of the characters could have easily been told in about 3 hours. we didn't need 8
or let me ask: do you think we needed 8 hours to tell the story of these characters and show their minimal development

I could tell you the plot of The Hobbit in 5-10 minutes. Is that a good substitute for reading the book?

You did, and you were wrong.

the Hobbit isn't a "character study"
it's an adventure story with a complete plot

with all of the unanswered questions and all of the rushed/magical detective work in the "present", i was not wrong
you may want to change the context of my prediction, but it doesn't change what i said and what it meant at the time

I still love that you think that's a valid argument. "Well I wouldn't have written it that way, so it's obviously a flaw."

Jake. it's a tv show. It's not a term paper where a teacher is going to deduct points for going off topic or explaining things unrelated to your paper.
A show like this needs filler. It's a good way to keep the audience guessing. No, all the leads didn't work out. And something's were left unexplained. But that is how police work is. In the concept of the show, it filled that void & was also immensely entertaining at the same time.
I honestly thought I was over analytical. But holy mother of god, you take the cake. Where are you getting this energy from?

it's called efficiency. it's not a novel concept
it's not about "i wouldn't have written it that way" or "i was disappointed," because i had already accepted the show was not going to live up to my massive expectations of a great show. that occurred weeks ago
as i've said multiple times, i'm more laughing at the complete change in tone of so many posters. they criticized me for saying there wasn't enough time to wrap up the story, and now criticize me for being right and bringing it up. apparently i missed the memo on when the consensus of this show shifted, but it occurred about 8:30pm CST

Here is a screen cap of the guy on the bed.
Behind him you can see that it says "Yesterday" and then something I can't make out. Under that it says "I am real, I am real."

The point went over your head. The example could have been any novel or work of fiction. The point is the story. It isn't a law manual.
