Is there not a true detectivepedia site yet?

Now that we know Errol was the serial killer and that he staged the bodies as a calling card (1995 to 2012).
Why didn't the cult protect themselves by killing Errol like they killed Tuttle and had the guy in jail kill himself?

Much like the plot, you are just going to have to fill in the blanks of the wiki yourself.

I want to make a few points:
Errol was not insane. The scene at the school where he was looking at the little boy showed he has restraint, which means he is not insane. He is a psychopath
The scene at errol's house is the remnants of the cult after the leaders have gone. Sam Tuttle was the creator of the cult but Errol was the guardian of the secrets. Edwin Tuttle, Billy Lee Tuttle, Childress carried on the family business but as they went on in their lives the only one left was Errol and Ledoux. After Ledoux was killed, Errol and his half sister remained
I am certain that when Childress was alive, Errol was treated better and was trusted to be around the Tuttles and Childress families. Once Ted Childress died, Errol was on his own and that is when he made the public displays out of some of his victims.
The Yellow King was the skeleton hanging over the alter in Carcosa. My guess is Sam was the original yellow king and then Ted, but when they died, Errol replaced them with the skeleton figure.
The pile of clothes near the entrance to the alter of Carcosa was no doubt the remnants of victims from the marsh and the after math of Katrina/Rita
The half sister was describing to Errol how her grandfather raped her for the first time in the field outside
the man's body in the shed was his symbolic "daddy" which I am sure was a series of victims used as stand-ins as a replacement for Ted Childress
errol didnt show up on any records because his birth record and that of his sister were destroyed
Errol was quoting North by Northwest
I think the ending was appropriate. We dont know how far reaching and elaborate the cult was. Edwin Tuttle denied Errol was a member of his family to distnace himself but we may never know how wide this cult reached. Hence the women with the spiral tattoos and the black stars. marty's kids playing with a dolls and creating a rape scene. Etc. So what we got was the part we knew most about, Marty and Rust was resolved with them closing the book on Errol. The rest of the story behind Errol and his family will never be known, but is left to the imagination.

Anyone think the man in the bed was in on the cult and was trying to get Errol to stop the public displays? Maybe he was getting punished for trying to stop him.

stretch. He's likely just a random victim.
If he mattered, we would know
......or not

This is certainly a possibility, although there is absolutely no evidence to support it.
why would we think this?

In a show that seemed to be so unique and original the case came down to one man (an inbred psychotic version of Jason who didn't appear at all to be some criminal mastermind). That is a disappointment to me. I'm sorry I feel that way, but that's why I think the case was a letdown.
Did it? Where was the tape made? Who made it? Why did the Reverend Tuttle die?
We were only shown what the detectives know. There was no omniscient view. There was obviously more people involved in the cult. but only one was the psychotic mass murderer, just like in real life.

I think the guy on the bed is the mummified body of some dead family member, maybe his dad.

NP: this isn't the kind of world where you mop up everything.
I think this is a HUGE theme from this show. This, combined with the many peoples' inability to handle that. I think a perfect example of that can be seen in this thread with some posters. Trying to clean up every detail of everything will drive you mad. Rust sitting in his apartment with all the shite on the walls and the antlers on the table comes to mind.
I'm on my phone and this is a limited explanation of what I'm trying to say. JMO.

Just finished watching it. Awesome show and definitely in my upper shows of all time. At least this first season. I'm glad it was more character driven and not a crazy, elaborate, unrealisticly huge conspiracy ending.
