Jake is just pissed that someone as smart as he is was born in SWLA within the last 45 years.

You really suck at watching TV.

How could anyone that watched the first 7 eps of this show have anticipated a nicely tied bow at the end with hackish footage of perp walks of big wigs framed under the guise of TV news coverage?
That was never, ever going to happen.
Ever.
there is a huge gap between getting into the main draw of the show and wrapping up every detail

That should be the only use for that gif.
Wait, did they ever say how Russ' daughter died? IF NOT THE SHOW IS RUINED!

with all of the unanswered questions and all of the rushed/magical detective work in the "present", i was not wrong
you may want to change the context of my prediction, but it doesn't change what i said and what it meant at the time
I didn't see anything particularly magical.
Ultimately I think the only realistic dissatisfaction one could have with the story is that it doesn't fully explain the "reasons" for the cult's existence in the first place.
I would respond that 1) psychopaths are never in fact that interesting (or if you try to make them interesting it's usually flat); it's sort of like going through Dante's Inferno expecting some big reveal with Satan and all you get is some frozen dude with three heads chomping on Brutus, Cassius, and Judas
2) if you pay attention you actually know enough about their motivation, including Errol's, who was part of the cult but once again also an independent operator.

And I could really care less about what the rituals were for, or the other laundry list of things you wanna know.
you're in the minority. that talk dominated the discussion of this show from the get go basically anywhere i looked
if you didn't care? that's fine
but people who DID care now proclaiming they never did? that's just funny to me
quote:
Would it make the show that much better if you knew every freaking detail?
i never said it needed to show every detail, and i already had "given up" on the show meeting expectations
the response (and shifting) is much more interesting than a fictional work could ever be

This is what I'm talking about.
i don't get wrapped up in shite too often. lots of people do, and it distorts their objective view of movies
that's why people often get lost in the hype of movies, or love them walking out of the theater but then realize they suck later (or the opposite..big lebowski and cabin in the woods threw many people on first viewing)

btw, you ruined these True Detective threads for me.
they were all a waste anyway, so it doesn't really matter

or anything about the group, other than a few members. even what we know has a lot of guessing and grey around it

this is what i mean by the grey. what exact evidence is there of this, exactly?
we can guestimate and interpret, but i could say he's just doing the bidding of a yellow king that never appeared on screen and be just as right
*ETA: and i TOTALLY get the "well that's how real life is!" argument, but then we have Rust, so that argument doesn't work anymore (especially if he's supposed to be the focus of the show).

My question is why didn't people take NP at his word when he said it was more of a story about the two detectives relationship than the mystery. I stopped looking for clues and just enjoyed the show and wasn't really disappointed with the ending. My only compliant about the ending is that they could have made it creepier.
I will admit it was fun reading all of the post of the various theories.

This is so idiotic and wrong that's it's literally impossible to discuss this show with you.

The show was about Rust and Marty.
That's what the show stuck to.
By your standards, Saving Private Ryan would suck because it focused on just one unit and not the entire war.
Detective Mouzone and his partner have the files and the tape. You think it stops when the show ends?
The show was about Rust and Marty and their part of the story. The show was not about the cult. It was not called "True Cult."

that's a solid question
of course right now most people are acting like they never expected the mystery to be solved, so it only applied 24 hours ago and prior

The "cult" was molesting kids at the Tuttle schools. The Tuttle church actively covered it up as evidenced by the preacher talking about finding the pictures of kids. The gay guy says the he remembers the man with the scars on his face in that group of people that were molesting. So Errol was part of the group that was molesting kids and part of the group seen in the ritualistic Marie Fontenot video.
Why didn't Marty and Rust ever interview old employees of the schools? For example, they could have asked a teacher if they ever saw strange men wearing fricking animal masks roaming the hallways.

The sooner everyone can accept that they are "wrong" and sfp is "right" we can all move on.

fine. it was inefficient and half of the focus was a stereotypical every man and the other was an unrealistic guy who didn't change (except in the last 5 minutes, which only had to do with him almost dying and nothing to do with the prior 7 hours and 55 minutes of show)

wut?
that comparison makes no sense. by my standards, i'd get mad if SPR ended after tom hanks told the crew what he did back home

isolate this storyline and it's not really that great or interesting...outside of Rust-shock when we're first introduced to him. once that wears off, what exactly are we left with? think about it
it's not that original, interesting, or complex. it even has the tried and true cliche'd "partner cheating on partner's wife" angle

this is much more about honesty and consistency

I want to know why everyone was drinking FRICKIN LONE STAR BEER all the time in South Louisiana. If it is something as simple as a product placement the entire premise of the show is a FARCE!!!

I guess SFP wanted TD to end like an episode of Full House where Danny gathers the family together while piano music plays and explains what lessons should have been learned from the episodes for those that missed it.
