So B. Tuttle had a video of a little girl being raped or sacrificed, but it's just a guess he was involved?

who knows? they didn't get into details at all. people guessed that the lawnmower man was the mastermind a few weeks ago. just b/c they guessed right based on very little information doesn't mean that it was a good guess.

i think you're missing the larger point i'm saying

I don't understand why so much time was spent leading us to believe Marty's daughter had been involved in a gang rape and nothing ever came of it.

I guess the last scene where he says the darkness is defeating the light of the stars tries to justify the non perfect ending.

I guess i am just spoiled by breaking bad where everything was tied up with such a nice little bow.

Yeah, no explanation for the phone call that made him kill himself in jail.

Disappointed we never got an explanation of the Yellow King and Carcosa from Erroll or a Childress/Tuttle. Nothing. Had to read online. That was a missed creepy opportunity.

I really enjoyed the ending, although there were some questions left unanswered and some riddles unsolved.

However, you could argue that's life... we don't always get all of the answers.

Oh, and NP's comments in the recent interview about the last episode reflecting the binary system now make perfect sense.

Light and Dark...

Just showing the lengths that the "cult" was willing to go to to keep the secret.

it's not that...and it was TIED up pretty well

the problem to me is that they initially created this potentially layered and interesting mystery show about a cult in south louisiana, etc, and that just never materialized in any meaningful way

and we can go back to look at the comments made by people and their expectations and what they enjoyed aobut the first 2 episodes...and compare to what they're saying now...i bet there will be a huge gap

i mean shite we left that show without knowing ANYTHING about the cult, except a couple people who were involved and some strong guesses as to a couple other people who were involved. the cult was a red herring...THE CULT!

Yeah 4/5 aint bad but there's still another, maybe Senator Tuttle, who knows?

I don't know. I enjoyed the season and I thought the ending worked just fine to me. I think they probably should have done more with the daughters, especially after they had the scene throwing the crown into the trees but it could have all just been for dramatic effect, which is fine by me. I don't need every show to mindfrick me.

You gotta remember too, a lot of people will try to compare it to Breaking Bad and The Wire but both of those shows had 5 seasons to develop a story.

I'd give True Detective an 8/10. The Wire gets a 10/10, Breaking Bad probably a 9.3/10

There definitely wasn't any powerful people involved. Some retard just called the jail and made the guy kill himself.

Liking the ending even more n hour later. While most were focused on the actual crime, the real theme was the relationships between the leads. Well done NP.

Did they tho? Or did internet message boards look too deep into it?

This show was about rust and cohle everything else was a back drop to show their evolution and relationship.

i had already resigned myself to disappointment 2-3 weeks ago. i had 10/10 expectations after episode 1, and the show ended up being like a 6/10 for the overall series.

i think they had enough to develop an intricate plot and get into the cult in 8 hours

you need help. The Cult was a huge part of this show. How you missed that I don't know. Did they reveal everyone involved? No. But the cult was sure as hell a driving point in the series

I don't think the cult was a red herring. I just think they didn't really have time to unravel all of the layers. This wasn't just the spaghetti monster and some meth heads, they were just the pieces that got caught. The rest is up to everyone else.

My disappointment lies in that I was riveted for the the first seven episodes, and I found myself bored during the finale.

It mainly because I realized the chance for unexpected surprise was all but dead, and the criminal mastermind was nothing more than a degenerate slob.

Also, I wanted a little more on the cult, maybe some history, reflection on its members and how it could still be in play going forward. Maybe some Hart family intrigue, or reveal about Cohle's past.

Instead, the show was just a bromance between MM and WH. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Still a great show, but not transcendent by any means.
