I thought SP/Megatrons plan was to enslave a planets population to rebuild Cybertron and they specifically picked Earth. Wasn't SP heading there when he got clipped by enemy fire and his ship crashed on the moon instead of Earth?
Yeah, Earth was specifically selected from what I recall. I guess you have to approach the Transformer movies like you have to approach the Highlander movies.

I guess I need to see it again to be sure.
I don't remember Earth being the plan from the start.
It was more "Hey, we are here so lets adapt to the situation."
The impression is that the Cybertron war happened a long, long, long, long time ago.

And wait a second -- what do you mean gunships? Like planes? That have robots as pilots? Robots that turn into planes on their own?

Most human have difficulty making a goddamned Ikea desk, how the hell are they supposed to rebuild an entire planet of hyper-advanced technology? And what in the hell could humans do that a giant fricking robot couldn't do a bajillion times quicker?

Maybe they are all lazy robots like Bender and would prefer to have humans do the work.

fairly entertaining but not great movie IMO
BTW - would it deserve a separate thread to debate Transformers3 vs Star Wars4? Esp to pose the question: which was a bigger waste of great actors?
Star Wars4:
Liam Neeson
Ewan McGregor
Natalie Portman
Samuel Jackson
Transformers3:
Frances McDormand
John Malkovich
John Turturro
Shia (kidding)

I'm about 95% sure. Although I was distracted by my "what could have been" thoughts about Megan Fox.

Right off the bat I'd have to say Star Wars 4.
Not only were the actors legit but their characters were great too. Lucas failed that much.

Would it be possible for Hollywood to ever make a Transformers movie with only robots in it? Maybe like a prequel of the cybertron war or even how unicron and primus came to be. Throw in a director like Peter Jackson or James Cameron and it could happen...could it?

No cause the movie would cost too much UNLESS they did it Wall E style.

was definitely an improvement over 2, but would be hard not to be. my main qualms, as have been stated by a few other people:
-not near enough shockwave, to me he was more of a cameo than anything
-starscream meeting his demise at the hands of shia lebeouf is an absolute disgrace
-way way too much nest team bullshite at the end. the autobots show up, i get all pumped about an epic battle, and the next time you see them they're in custody of the decepticons and being executed. i would have rather seen the action that led to their capture than watch nest try to figure out a plan of attack for 45 min.

I enjoyed the movie. The new chick was easy on the eyes.
Kids behind me wouldn't shut up though. My wife thought i was horrible when I told her I was gonna go casey Anthony on them.
Too soon?

Budget constrains unfortunately made it cheaper to USE humans actor and action rather then full on Autobot vs Deception battles.

Just saw it in 3D tonight. I thought it was pretty badass and had a great storyline that was easy to understand. I usually get bored with really long movies but this one had me interested for pretty much the whole time.

Good movie to take a 9 year old to or no?

What hick theater in Covington? Surely you can't mean the one by Best Buy. By the way, I liked it minus the awful attempts at humor (Malkovich, Cho from The Hangover, the parents) and wasting time over Shia looking for a job.

I'm coming here to post my thoughts on the movie, then I'll read and catch up on the thread..
Saw it on Saturday, and enjoyed it. It was even more over the top than the previous two, which seems hard to do. There was a good bit that I have gripes with, but all in all, it was a great mindless popcorn summer blockbuster-type movie.
shite I had a problem with:
- New girl. Not sure what it is about her, but I'm just not a fan really. And she seemed out of place for most of the movie. Also funny that an out-of-work Sam can pull a hot, foreign, rich chick. Also, her at the end trying to basically talk shite (sense?) to Soundwave (Megatron?) was laugh-worthy.
- Patrick Dempsey. I thought he was bad, especially after he "turned" and was working for the Decepticons. Again, just seemed out of place.
- Chicago part. I liked it overall, but there were a lot of times when it sucked:
---- Like the "badass" merc dude who pussed out on firing the RPG at the building. I realize that it would've ended the movie about 40 minutes earlier, but damn..just don't make these dudes out to be badasses, and then have them puss out.
---- The "Let's cut this building in half and let it lean 90 degrees on the next building" scene. Cool scene? Sure. Even kinda sorta remotely believable? Not even close. Suspension of belief is one thing. Blatant bullshite is another. When they jumped out of the windows and then shot themselves back into other windows, I was cracking up. And the Tremors-bot thing was just DESTROYING that building, yet it still was standing/leaning.
---- Them parachuting into the city. In one scene, we see badass fighter jets streak into the city, only to be blown up within seconds. But then the next scene has the heliplane things scooting into the city right next to the building they need to be at, and THEN the Decepticons start noticing.
---- OP getting tangled. Dude, jsut whip out your badass sword/axe thing and get loose. Shouldn't take two or three autobots 20 minutes to get you loose.
- Inefficiency of the Decepticons. I love how sometimes they can just blast humans like they're swatting flies (which is how it should be), yet when it comes to close quarter combat, they can't seem to simply kill one or two humans.
- Tiny humans and their puny weapons versus giant robots and their awesome weapons. Instead of taking a back seat and letting our giant robots fight the bad giant robots, we love to shoot Decepticons with shite weapons like M-16s and pistols.
- Sam's little pet autobots. Didn't really care for them, but I know they were in there for the kids to laugh at, so it didn't bother me that much.
- Ken fricking Jeong. Seriously, I hate this dude now. He's the worst part of everything he's in now (except for Role Models).
- Soundwave. I didn't dislike Soundwave, but it could have been SO much better IMO. And I didn't like that Laserbeak spoke. Would've also liked to have seen more Ravage and Rumble.
shite I liked:
- Parents. They were funny in the first movie, and then bad in the second. This time, they were in just the right amount, and were funny enough to be included. Bay toned them back the right amount.
- Funny. There were some legit funny moments and lines in this movie. That's nothing new really, but I think Shia delivers the lines well, and it reminded me of parts of the first movie.
- Shia. I don't know why he gets so much hate. I like the guy.
- Turturro. Sam as the parents...toned back enough that he was entertaining but it wasn't over the top.
- Slow motion scenes. I realize that some of that was done for the whole 3D thing, but those parts were badass, and made the action look really awesome. Especially the ones where Bumblebee would transform with Sam and ole girl in the car, jump over something or shoot someone, and then grab them and transform with them back in the car. That was cool as shite.
- The action. I've enver had a problem with the action sequences in the TF movies (which is a big gripe from lots of people). And this one didn't disappoint either...it was awesome and fairly nonstop.
- Plot. It was better than the second one, and I liked the idea of them bringing Cybertron to Earth.
- The shuttle scene...mainly because I watched the shuttle take off Friday for the last time, and it was fresh on my mind.
- Cool looking transformers and lots of shite blowing up.
All in all, it was a great summer blockbuster movie, mainly for the last item on my list...the robots looked awesome, and lots of shite blew up. And that's really the only two reasons I'll continue to see any Transformers movie that is released in theaters. It definitely delivers a shite ton on those fronts.

There could still be a 4th movie, but without the guys you mentioned. I heard Spielberg may be in line to the 4th movie if it ever happens.
Spielberg would be an idiot not to Ex. Produce any and all TF movies until the end of time, because they make hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars every time. Hell, this one should make at least a billion (been out for 12 days and is already at $645M).
Also, for whoever asked if it was okay for a 9 year old...that's borderline. Although if you go by the people sitting next to us when we saw it, it's okay to bring your 4 year old son and 10-month-old daughter (who screamed and cried about 5 or 6 times throughout) to see it. fricking assholes.
