Based on

1. importance to universe and the MCU as an overall approach

2. rewatchability

3. being a standard overall good movie

IN NO ORDER: I submit

- Iron Man (really solidified the MCU and is very rewatchable)
- Civil War (rewatchable and pretty good)
- Winter Soldier (just a great movie)
- Ragnorok (proved MCU can shake things up on existing characters and deliver)
- GOTG (a homerun on delivery, an insane risk while being somewhat central to the MCU and being out of left field - and very rewatchable)

Iron Man
Avengers
Winter Soldier
GotG
Ragnarok

i switched out Avengers for Civil War, but pretty dead on.

ETA: i actually have iron man, GotG, and WS randomly DVR'd at my in-laws house. i usually am the first one up there when we're not going out hunting and have been working my way through them for the last 3 years. every time i go back and hit resume it's exactly where i left them.

Iron Man. If it dead ended and didn't do well you have none of it.

- Guardians. It gave us travelable space instead of wormholes like Thor has and proved that they can use smaller IP and still have good stories and characters.

- Avengers in bringing the groups together without creating a clusterfricked mess.

- Black Panther. Eventually we lose stark and Rogers and Black Panther ushered in Panther(will be the new leader) and his sister (will be the one making all the cool shite).

-Doctor Strange gave us magic which will be a game changer.

Iron Man is far and away #1. If it failed, Marvel would've been done.

The Guardians movies and Winter Soldier are the only films that are very re-watchable for me. Most of the other films are completely forgettable.

Iron Man - For reasons already mentioned. Plus first mention of the Avengers. And first cross over (Nick Fury)

Captain America: First Avenger - Set up the historical aspect of the MCU. Introduced the first Infinity Stone (Tesseract), which has been the underlying plot for the entire MCU

Guardians of the Galaxy - For reasons already mentioned. Plus it' the first to go borderline extreme in the humor department, and proved it's a successful formula.

Spider-Man: Homecoming - Spidey finally arrives in the MCU. First sharing of character rights, and proves this can be very successful

All others.................

ETA: Avengers - How could I forgot to mention this?? All characters on the screen for the first time.

Iron Man
Avengers
Winter Soldier
GotG
Civil War

Ragnarok just misses on the importance aspect to me. It isn't terribly important outside of the plot of moving some pieces around. It owes everything it did to GotG. It might be the most rewatachable film the group, however.

I just watched TFA again this week, and man, that movie is so great. While I don't think it's terribly important, and it's rewatachability suffers a bit, it is the heart and soul of the MCU along with Iron Man (where the MCU gets its look and feel). The movie is a complete sendup to old comics and old adventure films.

Gotta say I never thought Avengers 1 would be as good as it was. I think it shocked a lot of people.

It's a Tier 1 Comic Book Film, while being extremely solid all around. Whedon was masterful at pulling all of the various threads together.

5. GOTG2

I really don’t see why this one is all that relavent aside from who Mantis is. Same with Spider-Man Homecoming, which while great, doesn’t have really any impact on the MCU and is just a fantastic side story.

My list, with the caveat that I haven't seen Ragnarok yet:

-Iron Man 1 - Set the tone for the universe, kicked off the entire thing altogether.

- Guardians of the Galaxy 1 - Extremely rewatchable, expanded the cosmic element of the universe that was introduced in phase 1.

- Winter Soldier - Most well made movie of the MCU at the time it was released (may still be, haven't thought about it too hard in a while). Was the catalyst that turned Agents of SHIELD from a decent-to-subpar show with movie references to a very good show that stands on its own. (this speaks to the impact to the overall MCU, not just the movies)

- Ant Man - Rewatchable, but also important that it was only loosely connected to the overall MCU. Helps prove that they can still do origin stories that don't have to have the burden of advancing the plot built over a decade.

- Doctor Strange - To me it fits the good movie/rewatchable criteria, but the importance is based on potential. It introduced a new corner of the wider universe to be explored.

GOTG2 gets a lot of shite but I love it. It wasn’t as funny as the first but it was never going to be. But while I like it, it is completely a side story and is one of the least essential stories to the overall MCU

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I sat here for longer than a minute trying to figure out what the frick The Force Awakens had to do with the MCU.

I agree with your list

Civil war didn’t do it for me.

It was like those walking dead episodes with Rick fighting Negan constantly and you knew no main characters would die.
