My opinion is that Tozawa left the tape for Jake as part of his FUs when he leaves Town/country.
He hated Jake.
Jake had made it personal by flirting with his number 1 girl.
The scene immediately following, or shortly after, Jake watching the video is Tozawa smuggly smiling while on his jet.
I feel like his reporter boss would have done more than leave an anonymous envelope on his doorstep especially knowing how important it was to Jake.

I finally finished the season.
Was/is there a culture in Japan of men convincing women to buy drinks at clubs? The storyline with the effeminate guy milking Polina of her money seemed strange to me.

Yeah it’s a thing in Japan apparently, I’d dress up like a BTS member to get paid to seduce Eastern European models. In fact I’m gonna check LinkedIn for openings right now.

Good news: this guy got renewed for Season 2!
I really enjoyed season 1 and am glad it is coming back.

Was Tozawa's girlfriend Misaki crying because she wasn't going to see him again, or because his people are going to kill her. Throughout the season, I kept wondering if she was an undercover cop, or at least helping Katagiri. She seems like more than just a concubine.
Am I a terrible person for not feeling very sorry for Samantha losing her money, or even for Polina being taken away? They are both adults that knew who they were dealing with. None of the girls at those clubs seemed like nice women. I still don't understand where they were getting their money if they were buying the drinks for the guys. Both of them are portrayed as not having sex for money. How are they getting the money to buy expensive bottles of alcohol for men?

They are club girls, the guys buy drinks or bottles essentially for their company. They are like modern day Geishas. There is even a scene where they compare the amount of clients they had and tips made. Samantha was also trying to get the top girl to work
at her club.
I think the other girl was just be used and was also a party girl with the drugs and booze.

Wasn’t that the vice chancellor in the video? The same guy who had his assistant tell Tozawa “no deal” or something like that at the party?
I figured that was Tozawa’s guys giving the tape to a reporter to incriminate the vice chancellor because he refused to play ball…could be wrong.

Correct. The men were buying expensive bottles for thier company. Then Paulina was using all of the money she was making (and obviously more) to buy expensive bottles to spend time with her "boyfriend" who was a host at another club.

The place she was buying him bottles was a different club, specifically it was a male version of the club she works at.
ETA from what I can tell from the show, it’s mostly lonely older ladies that are usually doing these types of places. The girl who disappears was a forgeiner and in her friends words is “very trusting and gullible”. Makes sense she would fall victim to the same type of scam being run on older lonely men and women in those clubs.

Finished a 2-day binge just now - I think this is the best new show in awhile. Nobody mentioned Ken Watanabe who is always awesome.
The direction, cinematography and tone are nearly perfect. I also like seeing how different Japanese people can look. Tozawa's #32 with the mullet.
I thought it was kind of weird how they didn't come back to the opening scene of the series (which was 2 years in the future). It would have been REALLY weird if they hadn't announced a 2nd season.
What sickness do we think Tozawa has?
The entire damn show made me hungry. It is absolutely true that Japan is among the best food countries in the world!

I watched the entire show under the assumption it was a miniseries
it was a nice little twist that it was setting up future seasons
I was like how the hell are they gonna wrap all this up?? Before the last episode

Definitely looking forward to this. The first season was pretty stylish, hopefully that continues for season 2

Season 2
I was under the assumption that this wasn't even happening, especially with HBO/Discovery/whoever making so many financial cuts. S1 was well received, but I don't think that it had a ton of viewers.
