They missed a golden opportunity to delve into the iconic characters and they barely touched on some great actors who had limited screen time

Dickie being shot in the back of the head, then cutting right to young Tony in Holsten’s….

….a not so subtle bit of clarity about the end of The Sopranos final episode.

Please tell me it wasn't, woke! That would be insulting to the entire series.

Pointless and unrelated black characters, dominant over whitey, mouthing off to Italian mobsters in their lair, making drive-bys on them, screwing the hot white chick, seemingly never afraid of getting shot - again, all completely unrelated to The Sooranos. All the same old blaxploitation repackaged for a new generation of self-loathing white people.

So I guess it depends on your definition of “woke.”

No point for the entire Harold arc, unless Chase plans to incorporate him into another film. Otherwise it’s just a stupid woke thing.

I want to know who was on the other end of the phone with Junior at the end.

Love the scene where Livia gets shot in her big hair. Janice mentions that in the third season I think. Glad they incorporated that.

The dude playing young Sil gave an embarrassing performance. How could Chase think that was good?

I hope Chase gives us the Harold spin-off series that we are all now craving!

Harold = the most dynamic and “bad arse” character to come out of the Sopranos universe.

I watched the entire Sopranos series live (week by week) and once the Harold storyline premiered in the film - my loyalty changed in a hurry! Any scene WITHOUT Harold was a wasted scene in my opinion.

Chase has always been woke. Remember the Vito is a fig story that went far beyond necessary? They didn't need to spend a couple episodes of him shacking up with a gay lover in NH to make the point Mafioso don't like the gays.

Or Meadows Jewfro boyfriend telling Tone to go frick himself, in his own home, with zero repercussions?

The era didn't allow him to go full on like today.

The Harold thing in the movie was dumb as it started off like there was going to be a big war between the Italians and the blacks and then it just disappeared.

movie was terrible, need to go rewatch the series to get that bullshite out my head. Fell sasleep 3 times watching and i never fall asleep to the OG.

could have been great though if it was just about dickie in a mini series.

whole thing sucks though, everyone wanted a prequel on Junior and Johnnie boy. Want to give it on Dickie...fine. But all of this should have been mini series. Should have been mini series on Johnnie boy and Junior, then one on Dickie, then one on young tony birdging the gap.

Movie sucked.

No, we got that. What does any of that have to do with the 30% of the movie focusing on Harold and his shenanigans?

Face it...the trailer was a bait and switch. Had the trailer been cut to give a good representation of what the movie was ACTUALLY about, there would have been no real interest in it. Having now heard that Chase wanted to also do a movie about the '68 riots at least makes sense for how shoehorned in that whole storyline is in the movie.

I just kept thinking the entire first half of the movie at the theater, "frick...we all saw live on TV all summer and fall last year what amounted to race riots all across the country. I didn't want to see this in a Sopranos movie."

It’s not terrible. Just don’t go into it expecting a Sopranos episode.

In reality it was like a very long sopranos episode in a way, but without the context of additional episodes to give it a purpose.

And yes, we all understand the Dickie story and how it impacted Tony (hence Tony waiting for a murdered Dickie in Holsten's and looking at the bell), and how Tony basically "died" that day as well as it was the catalyst that sends him into the family business. But it should never have been in movie format. Very early on in the conception stage, Chase originally wanted to make the sopranos a movie and they realized it was better suited for tv with more room for story telling and nuance. You can't do that with a movie in the same way that the show did.

I've just never given a shite about Dickie. If it was a limited series maybe spend one episode on that relationship, but that's enough. They get a great actress like Very Farmiga to play Livia, and they put cheap unnecessary prosthetics on her and spend more time on a random association with a black crew that was never mentioned in the series. They could have had a classic character in Livia/Farmiga and used the movie showing the relationship with Tony and how Livia treated him and Johnny. And I'm glad Michael Gandolfini got this opportunity but honestly it would have been much better if they had a formidable young actor who could portray the good guy/bad guy character Tony was. The Tony character here had no strength or charisma

I can see that. I just don’t think it’s as bad as some people are saying. I personally didn’t want to see a story about Dickie Moltisanti. I would have rather seen ,as some people have said, a mini series about Tony in his 20s. As for the movie I think it stands on its own ok. People are going on like it’s a horrible movie. I think it was shot and acted well except for Silvios character. Some of the shots in the movie were beautiful. Also some of the Easter eggs were very cool like Tony playing with the dog his dad gives to his goomar in the series. It was definitely more than a B level movie which I thought it was going to be based on the trailer.

Seems like the movie set up a potential series for Harold's character.

That's a lot of food for a Monday night. You may be extremely disappointed but you wont be hungry.
