I loved the ending but I can’t figure out when Saul decided to give himself up the way he did. Has this been his plan the entire time after Kim’s pay phone conversation? Or did he decide on the flight?
Decided during the flight. Saul found out Kim had confessed during the negotiations, but didn't know if any legal trouble was coming her way. When Oakley said Mrs. Hamlin was "lawyer shopping" that's when Saul decided to give himself up with the "I've got something that will make their toes curl" line.

BTW, the writer said in an interview that he thinks even though Saul did what he did that the civil trial against Kim moves forward and there is still a signed confession she made as evidence against her.
So what Saul did wasn't to save her but to face the music and be a better man like she told him to. He literally did it just to prove to her he could be a better man.
I get the angle of an act of redemption for him after a lifetime of being a bad person and Kim bringing that on because of his love for her but I feel like it was crammed and sprung onto us after 6 seasons.
Still not a fan of the ending but overall the series was good. Not great like BB but good. BCS was way more character driven.
It'll be hard to say goodbye to the Heisenberg universe after 15 years. I am glad Kim and Jesse made it out. They were the hearts of the shows.

having Marie in the finale felt cheap and dumb. There’s really no reason she would have been there for that, and no reason for Saul to think she was. And she wasn’t even a beloved character. It just felt forced and out of place.
It didn't feel forced to me. She was the wife of a murdered DEA agent; I could see them bringing her in to see the consequences of a man associated with Hank's death. Maybe not realistic per se, but it didn't really bother me in regards to the story.

It's perfectly in character for Marie to be sticking her nose in it and trying to lecture people.

Marie wasn’t far fetched at all
She knows everyone in the Albuquerque police and everyone else associated with the case is dead except Saul and Jessie
She would absolutely want to say her peace to him once she found out he’d been caught

Yes it is, you don’t take a victim into a plea negotiation.

I loved the whole episode. All of it. I was very happy with the ending.
My only issue was with AMC+. The app crashed and didn’t start working until 9-ish. So they can eat a bag of dicks.

quote:Amen. BCS could do no wrong in the eyes of some and they resorted to the overused explosions and shootouts fallback as a crutch.
Yet people who were critical of them were shite on as "wanting shootouts and explosions" and stupid shite like that. My point is that the Gene episodes were a downshift from the quality of the series, so criticism of them is deserved.

+1 The gene scenes simply pale in comparison to the cartel storylines.

But there's not a whole lot of connection between Saul and Walt outside of him doing legal proceedings, right? It's not like it would be a "Marie, we finally caught the guy that killed Hank!" type of situation. Not to mention that, like someone said, having a victim appear at a deposition seems way out of the ordinary (and out of line).

Now that is something I can definitely agree with.

I enjoyed the series finale for what it was but after Lalo’s death this show limped across the finish line.
And shite, as "cool" as the "WW shootout with the Nazi dudes" was, it's one of my least favorite things about the BB series. It was just so over the top and felt kind of dumb. So I specifically don't care for the over the top shootouts and explosions in a show like BCS.
Also, I do agree with whoever it was that said the show quality dips a little due to the black and white aspect of it. I think that's definitely true, at least for me. Regardless of why they did it (i.e. if it was to hide the age of the actors, as has been speculated), it takes away from the show a bit.

I don't see if that way. I have no problem with people criticizing the Gene episodes and finale because it was a break from the action that everybody loved about Breaking Bad and the Cartel/Gus storylines in BCS. But I loved them because I thought they were true in style/theme to the earlier BCS storylines, especially the ones revolved around Chuck and Jimmy themselves.
To add, it was not a drop down in quality for me.

Exactly. A show this good shouldn’t have a 4 episode epilogue to end the series. I felt it was a little pretentious of Vince.

Marion can get cable internet now. She should get the $5 million reward on Saul's head.

When did he hatch the plan?
Sometime between hearing that Kim made her statement and being on the plane. Before that, he was willing to take the deal and wouldn't have cared what Kim thought because he viewed her as hypocritical about it all as he was.
It was only after hearing that she faced the music as best she could (solved the time machine riddle as best as it could be solved) that he decided to do the same because at the end of the day, all he wanted was her (and Chuck's) genuine respect.

Great thought but you know that little shithead Jeff is going to end up spending all the money and leave her with hardly anything.

Kim showing up in prison as Jimmy’s lawyer felt a little weird to me. He’s in jail and doesn’t really need one anymore. I guess that’s just her way of being able to visit him..??
That's exactly what it was.
I'm pretty sure she's not actually a lawyer, she just used her old New Mexico bar card to fool the guards into letting her in.

Accy after the fact…. Still no reason for her to be there.
Would never happen in real life and lip service to the BB crowd for another cameo
Exactly. And they just give her the floor to say whatever. Total fanboy scene. Worthless.
