the decision shows that they are in fact not going to try and be as authentic to the books. Or else they would have chosen an actor that was close to the book. Not choosing him just to be diverse.
This. I had hopes when we heard of Peter Capaldi as Dumbledore potentially but now this...
All bets are off. Some race swaps I might have been able to look the other way, but Snape has always been whiter than sour cream. fricking sad

I haven't screamed about anything. I have made an observation that changing Snape to being black would solve the "white man evil" trope that you guys would have been complaining about if they went with a white guy.
I do think it's funny that this board continues to ignore that JK Rowling is in charge of this. It's her story. If she wants to change it, she's more entitled to do so than your typical boogeyman "creative." She wrote 7 books that you guys apparently love by plagiarizing other stories. Why not trust her to make something good now?

Ron's height, Harry's hair, Hermiones hair. I'd rather all have been the same as the books, but them not being that way is something I was easily able to get over.
They cast these people as kids for what ended up becoming a multi-movie franchise that showed them as they aged. Its harder to find a kid who you think will age well and still portray the character... and who will do a good job at their current age.... than it is to find an adult to play a certain part.
Pasty white skin and long hair makes the Snape character. He looks almost dead. He looks like a bad guy, and he is supposed to.

Let's not forget the Dumbledore recast also in the movies.
The recast Dumbledore, because the original died, is one of the biggest issues fans have with the movies. He did not portray Dumbledore anything like the books described him.

Making Snape black is an act of politics itself, not our reaction.
He knows this. Well, either he knows this is true and won’t admit it, or he’s the biggest disingenuous piece of shite on this board.

you would see it that way even if it isn't though. to you everything is a culture war.
you are the hammer and everything is the nail.

No everything is not a culture war. I very much don’t believe that.
This is, however.

Only person who ever brings up “culture war” is him and he’s the one who stalks the board looking for ways to inject it into everything. He’s a dishonest hypocrite.

Stop lying, who brought it up, who always brings it up? You do

The great whitewashing of black culture continues. Put a well spoken black man in a role /character originally white so to make black more like whitey. No more culcha with a hard R or A and violent. It’s political and manipulative as a psyop.
Problem is, it gets played off as something modern and wonderful when it is indeed cowardly racist and demonstrative of keeping racism alive. By that I mean the prevailing in-your-face bs of “Those poor black people, lets over represent them and give them roles originally meant for white people. “
Let blacks and others write their own stuff and cast original roles. How has that worked out for those that did exactly this?

He’s just stating a fact, you turned this into “culture war” like always. Anyone who bothers to check your post history will see you use the phrase infinitely more than anyone else here, slapping it onto any conversation that goes against your religious fanaticism.

What a crock of shite.
No one would have complained if the greasy haired, pale white guy in the books was portrayed as a greasy haired, pale white guy in the show…like they did in the movies.

I would say just more corporate medaling in order to pander which I guess if you want call it culture war sure. I guess they think an extremely successful IP with both millennials and Zoomers isn’t enough which is just a terrible take.
Normally I don’t care about stuff like this but as mentioned before Snape looking like your cliche evil pale villain is pretty essential. Similar to the problem I have with the How To Train Your Dragon live action casting. When the race or culture is essential to the character it becomes a problem when you change it.
I’m sure this actor is great and when it comes to Nico who’s a mixed girl playing a fully white Scandinavian Viking girl despite Nico being a solid actress (did great as Sarah in Last of Us) she just isn’t right for the part

As usual people like Jaye are just dishonest. There’s already been a white Snape and not one complaint about the “evil white guy trope” which isn’t even real in this context. He knows this he’s just being dishonest.

Use the search function. Lol and search DE_ and w*ke and you will see they are used by others a lot more than me.

Again you deflect, trying to create a straw man.
