go to weekend showings no later than 3 pm. Problem solved. Going to a horror movie in the south past 5 pm is asking to be annoyed.

I think you are on to something. They love slasher flicks.

I know a few who love Friday the 13th movies and video games, and I was thinking to myself, "They aren't THAT good." Silly me, I forgot how appealing a bunch of mutilated white people could be for some....

If "Season of the Witch" was just called that and not under the "Halloween" franchise banner, I think it would be appreciated more.

It got panned when it was released, but I thought it was quite decent even at the time. I guess even the critics couldn't handle the fact that it was not related to the first two other than in title, so they assumed it was a cheap cash grab. In actuality, it was more of Carpenter's true vision of the "franchise," to be a series of Halloween-themed horror movies that were not
just Michael Myers sequels.

He didnt realise the Genre he had created and people dug the hulking, masked silent stalker.

I agree with him though, I wouldnt have assumed an audience would accept 10+ films about the same killer doing the same things every film.

I honestly thought this was bad. It was just corny in a lot of parts.

P.S. I sat next to an openly racist couple who talked all movie and were mumbling the entire time that Michael needed to hurry up and kill all the white people…..

I'm guessing they were probably white.

I just finished it and im clueless as well. The movie was ok, but not good. The unintentional comedy was nice tho. Hey this guy has murdered like 10 groups of people, u kids stay in the car and im gonna walk in the house and get him by myself.

Then also the fact that these people that have been terrorized by this guy for 40 years give up on attacking him after a few baseball bat hits and then 1 knife stab. I know they shot him as well but if he isnt laying in a pool of blood what is the rush?

As someone else mentioned it wouldn't matter but their hate seemed to disappear pretty damn quickly

Spoilers:

So does this movie confirm Michael isn't a human? Is that what we are suppose to take out of it?

Love the original Halloween and the series overall.

This movie sucked arse. Horrible. Garbage. Whoever wrote that script should be in prison for dumbassery.

That "Evil Dies Tonight" chant in the hospital was so bad and cheesy that it pissed me off.

Carpenter wanted it to become an anthology (not a Michael Myers franchise)

Michael Myers absolutely doesn’t hold back in this one. Good lord.

Can’t wait for #3 (not Season of the Witch)

They should have stopped with the first two as they were classics. The rest of the sequels were trash.

Yes. At the conclusion of the second movie, Michael was dead. That should have been the end and John Carpenter wanted to expand the Halloween universe. Season of the witch is a decent movie if you ignore the title. It explained I believe the occult that gave Michael his powers.

I believe that in the first two movies, he was just a crazy man that happened to very strong and had a high pain tolerance. Still can be killed.

Now in part four, he got beefed up to the level of zombie Jason. In the curse of Micheal Myers, the movie had to explain how he gained his powers as it was quite ridiculous.

It was there. Some were subtle and it certainly didn’t make the movie any better. The action sequences weren’t terrible but the rest was goofy with weird dialogue.
John Carpenter’s Haddonfield was Anytown USA and that works for a horror flick because it’s relatable. I didn’t even recognize it this time around.

About that social commentary:

In the bar when the black couple turns around and asks the white group to be more quiet so they could watch the show. This is when I unconsciously started paying more attention to it.

Staying with that couple, she was dressed as a slutty nurse and him a doctor but later they introduce themselves saying she’s a doctor and he’s a nurse IRL. The guy responds “I should have guessed”. (Right there I think they are admitting what they are doing) Also they had opera music blaring from their car. And later he says he never held a gun before so she takes the gun from him to protect him.

You also have another dude still running around in a dress the whole time with little context as to why. (They were the gender swapping Bonnie and Clyde in the last movie.)

I’ll leave the remaining couples in the movie for you to characterize. (Hint, each one outside of mainstream norms but in unique ways).

Another scene showed a girl bullying and beating up a boy.

I could go on, but the point is, somebody intentionally went in and reversed any traditional stereotypes this movie may have had. At some point it just becomes distracting. The first film had some of this as well from what I recall. It still made a truckload on a low budget but they went too extreme on this one.

Thanks for responding. I think your thinking way too much into it. Everything you’ve mentioned happens on a day to day basis.

I did notice those things, but didn’t really take away from the movie for me. More just eye rolling a little.

I thought it had a strong beginning, but when the mob shite started, it just went off the rails. And I was not buying Tommy Doyle as a tough guy, he was just a douche.

And call me old fashioned, but the gore was way to over the top. It was just campy and silly. I would prefer it to be more serious and ominous in mood.

Ending was ok, and I’ll definitely check out the next one. Halloween is my all time favorite Horror franchise, so I’ll watch anything they put out.

At least this wasn’t as bad as Resurrection, amirite
