Looks like they’re just releasing it in Britain first?

I think the one night only may be for the Q&A with Jackson. That's just my guess though.

yes according to the website...

Curious how this will be released to the non-brits.

ETA: I haven't found anything on a world wide release. Appears to be a production paid for by British govt from lottery proceeds and cultural dept.

The WingNut Films production, complimented with archival material provided by the BBC and London’s Imperial War Museum, will be making its premiere at the BFI London Film Festival followed by a U.K.-wide release of the 2D/3D film by Trafalgar Releasing on that same day, October 16th.

The film is part of the World War I centenary’s official program of cultural events known as “14-18 NOW”, funded by contributions from the British lottery, the government’s department of culture, and the Arts Council. They Shall Not Grow Old will also be distributed to all of Britain’s secondary schools after release.

Looks awesome. Would be amazing if they would do an event here in KC at the WWII memorial and museum. Which is an amazing experience.

Hopefully they will release in time to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of Armistice Day. Somebody bump this thread when they hear something about a US release, I'm definitely in for this!

They Shall Not Grow Old

FOR THE FALLEN

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

- Robert Laurence Binyon

The part in bold is known as the "Ode of Remembrance," and is said following the moment of silence in many ceremonies honoring the war dead in British Commonwealth countries.

I think they plan to do some sort of theatrical release in December in the US.

By far the coolest part is seeing the soldiers/people in real time motion, not the jerky sped up frame speed which always made the old footage "cartoonish" in a way. They never really felt real while watching.

Technology is so cool

Nothing on Fandango for Baton Rouge, but you can put in your e-mail to get a one time alert when it's listed.

I’m surprised, with the success of Thr Pacific and Band of Brothers, that Tom Hanks and Spielberg haven’t done an HBO WW1 series yet

I agree, I would love to see Spielberg do a WWI film before he's done with directing. It's a really interesting time period, especially the first part of the war, when old school military tactics went up against the sudden rise of mechanization and individualization. I also think a director with an eye like Spielberg could really bring the craziness of the war to life from chemical warfare, machine guns, horses, to zeppelins and biplanes. A series on HBO would be even better IMO, especially with the likeliness that they could get a much larger budget for a series this time around
