First time readers can get over it. Tolkien was writing about a world based heavily on Medieval Europe with an emphasis on early British history and heritage.

No one cared until the 2010s I’d bet.

It doesn’t make any sense for any of them to be black. Dwarves it really doesn’t make sense given they live underground.

Just so we are clear on your argument, which of these is so obvious?

1) their creator Aule was omniscient (I don't think this is the case but I am no expert) and knew they would eventually settle in a mountain underground when he created them, so therefore gave them skin genes that could help them synthesize vitamin D in a low UV radiation environment (instead of say giving them the ability to break down lactose and get what they need from milk)

or

2)In the 2000 years (dwarf lifespan is 250yrs) since the awakening of the dwarves, at the time of the RoP, the natural selection pressure within the mountain was so strong that darker skinned dwarves were unable to pass along their genes before dying of vitamin D deficiency, leading to 100% of dwarves being white

I don’t know what any of that means, but it sounds fricking retarded.

Hopefully you don’t share your theory based on your purely anecdotal experience outside this board.

There are 10+ books on the whole of Middle Earth world building/story telling. If he wanted to change things up, he could have. LOTR world building is based off of racial purity, bloodlines, clearly defined verbiage of what each race looks like. LOTR is based off of Anglo-Saxon mythology. It is uniquely that. Many people who are first time readers feel uneasy with how racial the series is.

What does going against the source material add to the show? Tell me. How is there added value by disregarding source material?

Every movies/tv show based on a book(s) or comics changes things from the source material. There can be a whole host of reasons why that occurs and remaining 100% to the written material doesn't always result in a better movie. That said, I can see being upset over plot points being changed, overarching character/personality changes, timelines being changed, etc. All of those are good reasons to be upset over this show (although for me not having read all of the books, I'm able to judge the show without any expectations from the source material).

In terms of what color a character's skin is, for LOTR I don't really see how it makes the story any different. Ultimately, who cares if an elf or dwarf is black/brown? Did they really change the nature of who the elves or dwarves were in this show by having some that are black/brown? One can complain dialogue, choppy writing, and weird pacing, but none of those had anything to do with the skin color of the actors chosen.

Modern narratives? Token socio-politics? Dated (to now) preachy dialogue?

What are you even talking about? What modern narratives or socio-politics was discussed in the show? There was no discussion of gay/trans rights, no discussion of healthcare, vaccinations, police brutality, BLM, etc.

I can buy not liking the writing in general, but I truly don't see what "woke" politics were supposedly snuck into the show.

I think rings of power season 1 sucked overall and was very predictable and gave off a weird 'amateurish' vibe...

...it didn't go out of it's way to insult me the way Wheel of Time did.

frick Amazon and frick the two chickenshit con artists they hired to run that show. Even Vox of all people called it a steaming pile of shite.

You knew a guy who had 5 total minutes of screen time in the second episode, and who wasn't in the first episode at all, was Sauron?

You saw him try not get eaten by a sea monster and just knew, huh?

I just finished episode 5 of ROP. Some thoughts:

1) The acting is garbage and so is the writing. The actress playing galadriel looks like she holding back a smile. Her facial expressions do not match the tone of the scenes. I also don't buy her "i'm a warrior" BS. Isildor is a giant pussy, and i'm struggling to see how he becomes the great warrior that stops Sauron.
2) Overly dramatic - clearly, the writers are all women, because this pile of shite show is so dramatic and nonsensical it's almost funny. The scene where they are leaving Numeneron, and they are all on the boat. The 3 gay best friends have the strange "we're not friends" moment but then the dad gives Isildor the horse pooper scooper and now "we're all friends again". Then, Galadrial steps on the boat with her armor and it's an elongated slow motion walk with G's hair flowing in the back ground and all the men on the boat, who HATE elves, BTW, all of a sudden look at her with adoration. I thought Galadrial was some great warrior, why is she so manicured and b) the entirety of her time on that island she was hated and people only referred to her as Elf. Now they are all for her? It's so retarded.
3) The half-ling hobbit type people are a waste of screen time. I'm assuming star guy is Sauron? They could have re-written the hobbit people not being in the show. They bring nothing but wanting me to fast forward.

It's obvious to me you put far more thought into this show than the writers and showrunners did.

100% agree.

OK, I’m looking at this now and this is ridiculous. Look at the armor at 1:21: YouTube

It’s clearly a spray painted shirt. Did all of the budget go to the special effects and none to the costume department? The film trilogy had a way lower budget than this, and all of the costumes are incredible. Really, white spray paint for the Numenorians?

EDIT: And Mordor is heavily implied to be a raised seabed from the Sea of Helcar, so no, this is not Mount Doom’s origins.

The Ring of Power does NOT represents the Middle Earth world that Tolkien created. The history written in The Simarillion is very detailed. The most obvious is Galadriel running around trying to find Sauron. The elves did not get along with the dwarves and they were not buddy-buddy. The Dwarves were very possessive and suspicious because of their gold and gems they mined.

The Ring of Power put Tolkien's Middle Earth in today's inclusive, alt-history story. Yes, this is fictional, but this is a plagiarized movie using Tolkien's characters.
