Finished it last night.

Imo it's off to a better start than GOT.

But the wife and I like magic so that element and the sorcerers make everything very interesting.

As said Cavil IS Geralt. I hope they rush and start filming early, we need more

My son was very bummed to find out next season wasn't until 2021. I told him I expected this was a much bigger hit than Netflix expected and they will likely try to move that up (assuming the actors' schedules will allow it).

The comedic timing on this show is amazing too.

Is this where we are at now? Storytelling and presentation gets a crutch because the details are documented online?

I’m not criticizing the show on this, although I’m not a fan for making us go so long into the season before they were serious in making it clear the stories weren’t linear/where they fit with each other.

But saying there are books and wiki articles explaining shite is the laziest argument ever.

These are prorated numbers since it dropped so late in the year, but Netflix says The Witcher is the #2 most watched series on Netflix in 2019.

quote:

Netflix cited fantasy drama “The Witcher,” starring Henry Cavill, as No. 2 among series, which was a surprise for a show that bowed Dec. 20. “Witcher” ranked No. 6 on the list of all titles.

...10 Most Popular Series on Netflix in 2019

“Stranger Things 3”
“The Witcher”
“The Umbrella Academy”
“Dead to Me”
“You: Season 2”
“When They See Us”
“Unbelievable”
“Sex Education”
“13 Reasons Why: Season 3”
“Raising Dion”

Just got the two expansion DLCs for Witcher 3 and started a new playthrough.

Umbrella Academy felt like a 10 year old wrote the series. I’ll give season 2 a shot but with The Boys on Amazon and the MCU shows starting this year, it’s way down my priority list.

The Witcher is amazing. I knew frick all going in, and still know frick all about that world, but I’m gobbling it up. It’s not as easily accessible as GOT was and the release format definitely hurts, but as long as they keep my boo and her violet eyes with green eyeshadow around I’m here for it.

The books are quick reads and very good. I’m probably gonna read through them again just to refresh.

Episode 3?

Yes. Adding something multiple episodes in that redefines everything counts. It’s one thing to have a big reveal at the end of an episode, but if you aren’t binging there is no way you don’t get hopelessly lost and have to restart. Especially in a show like this where you are trying to learn the rules and setting of the world.

Henry Cavill nails Geralt. I had never played the games before the show, so I had no attachment to the character either way going in. Cavill gives Geralt a great stoic quality without being boring, I think. It would be easy for him to be stiff, but he is able to communicate some warmth while still seeming distant and without normal emotions.

I thought Yeneffer did well in her role as well, and not just because she shows her tits a bunch. Ciri just hasn't been given anything to do yet.

CGI is wonky as hell at times and pretty great in others. Hedgehog boy and goat man are a bit nightmarish and Geralt's eyes sometimes look like someone painted some plastic eyes and slapped them on Cavill's face.

The timeline differences worked well in some ways and not so much in others. It's very confusing even when you understand that there are different timelines.

Can't wait for season 2.

ETA: How could I leave out Jaskier? Loved the dynamic between him and Geralt. Toss a coin to your witcher.

I think everyone wants Mark Hamill.

I think Graham McTavish or Bernard Hill could be a pretty decent Vesemir as well.

Hamill will do great as far as the voice and tone. He is just going to be lacking the physical prowess of Vesemir.

I'd be perfectly fine with either of those 3 though.

I love it. Nice for a show to say PAY ATTENTION. The hints are there and it isn't necessary early on to know about the time line differences.

So this is a little silly. It’s a TV show and it’s not supposed to be only for people who’ve read the books or played the games. It’s not crazy for people to expect to be able to follow what is going on.

Loved the show by the way
