Is it even a lock that they will go for Williams regardless of health?

Giacchino may give him a run due to the Abrams connection.

ETA:

Actually, just looked into it: Williams and Giacchino are co-composing.

I believe he's already signed on for Episode VII.

Speaking of Lebowski - why doesn't Carter Burwell get much love in these threads?

I think he's definitely top 5, perhaps top 3.

it's more because of the fact that the entire story, through six episodes, was constructed, and ended, so beautifully (with the exception of the first two episodes).

So 66% of them were good? That's like saying "MOM LOOK! I made all As and two Cs!"

Han Zimmer is the far superior composer.

I'd have to challenge this. John Williams will always be the greatest of all time. Don't forget about Morricone also.

This is a good idea, IMHO.

I love John Williams' work. It is iconic.

But, John is not getting any younger, so it would make sense to have someone work with him on the compositions for a Trilogy so that if something happened, you arent starting over from scratch.

Hans Zimmer is very hit and miss. He, like James Horner, recycles a lot of motifs from previous scores he has worked on. There are times when he blows me away and other times where he bores me to death.

Would you look at that...

Agreed. Zimmer can be as good as he can be bad. And he's still too tone focused right now. I prefer his older stuff to his newer stuff.

John Williams got this! The man is the GOAT, but as somseone mentioned, Hans Zimmer has been the best really since Gladiator came out. That was the beginning of his epic movie scores.

It would be mighty strange to see a Star Wars without a Williams score. While he hasn't had anythign iconic over the last few years, he hasn't really had the opportunity.

His scores from Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, Jurrasic Park, etc. are all basically American icons. I still wish Man of Steel would've used the Superman score.

Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurrasic Park, ET, Jurrassic Park, Private Ryan? Damn enough said, John Williams the GOAT

Also didn't know he was responsible for the Hedwig theme song for the 1st Harry Potter, that honestly may be one of my favorite composed songs.

I'm about to rustle some jimmies with this statement but truths are truths and this is a truth:

Hans Zimmer's score for Man of Steel is better than John Williams' Superman score in every single way.
