Uh
My initial comment:
His response:
Our reading comprehension is fine, yours on the other hand.
My initial comment:
quote:
Though in the movies Merry doesn't have the blade with the powers needed to kill the Witch King so it probably wouldn't carry as much weight in the movies since they don't know about his blade.
His response:
quote:
Merry stabs him in the leg or back in the movie.
Eowyn stabs him in the face to finish him off when he falls.
.
Merry obviously does not have a barrow-blade from Tom. Since Tom was cut from the film.
The blade he has in the movie is unclear. It could be the one Aragon gave him at weathertop (in place of Tom), the elvish dagger Galadriel gave him or just a regular dagger he had during that fight.
So yea, the movie just left out why the weapon was special and did play more into the no man prophecy. But it still took place the same way.
Our reading comprehension is fine, yours on the other hand.

Funny how you accuse others of being exactly what you are.
Merry’s blade did not break any spell. it was an enchanted blade specifically crafted to fight against evil. Because of this, it was effective in harming the witch-king.
And yes, I will Nerd-out on you about Tolkien all day long if you want. This has less to do with reading comprehension on my part, and more about the lack of knowing the source material on yours.
But by all means, go ahead and ship Elrond making out with Galadriel. ( Who is already married to Celeborn & is the future mother to Elrond’s wife)

I see you are still missing the point.

Having read the books and owning multiple copies of the books & movies is very much a thing of interest to me & yes, a part of my life.
I know of what I speak. Not watching this Amazon trash posing as a Tolkien series allows me to know more, not less.

Then you should know why it should never even be in this story.
But keep watching…

Yea, like I've mentioned numerous times now. Good lord you're insufferable.

That wasn’t even part of the ongoing discussion. Try to keep up.

It's so funny that SEK always circles back to complaining about people watching TV shows when he spends 80% of his life on the movie/tv board.
He is the real life version of Stan in the south park episode 'you're getting old'

Different discussion, you window licker. I was currently talking about the witch-king and now you’re bringing up the kiss from Elrond and Galadriel.
The last bit, I tossed in there as an insult . A throw away line.
Good grief.

Relax a bit. I was just addressing one small comment somebody made for lack of memory. You are not the only person to have read this book.
I know this and stated this earlier. But the Hobbits lose those blades in the movie and you never see actual proof that it was returned to them in the movies.
I never once said or implied that the prophecy of Eowyn killing the witch king was wrong. Prophecies can be cryptic by nature.
Tolkien continuously makes it a point in the books to bring up Merry still having his barrow-blade. Even Eowyn brings it up to Merry before the fight.
It is of my opinion that the blade caused the witch king to be vulnerable to Eowyn. Otherwise I don't see the point of the blade being carried across Middle earth and introduced from the start.

Aragorn randomly found &gave the Hobbits blades when they were at Weathertop.

quote:
Eowyn, being not a man, is fulfilling a prophecy regarding the W-K. Was it to the letter because she wasn’t a man? OR… did the prophecy get super lucky in predicting the exact series of events that allowed her to deal the death blow.

Looks like the rumor is that Season 3 will cover the Fall of Númenor

Other than Sting, Glamdring and Orcrist were clearly well-known blades made by Elven smiths from ancient times. But the others, the Barrow blades, now I'm not sure what qualities were known, even by Gandalf. Other than they were made by the men of Westerness, aka the Dunedain.
But that's the beauty of prophecies. Like in The Matrix, when The Oracle tells Neo not to worry about the vase... yes, they can be very cryptic.

Good. That storyline needs to get more interesting very quickly because idk how interesting the show will be without Sauron (Annatar) and Celebrimbor. The dwarves are great but it can't carry the show single handedly.
