TFA is annoying because its so cloying but of course it's not nearly as bad as the prequels which aren't even real movies.

I don't know what they are...PSA's on how not to act? Director's lecture on how not to direct? Scriptwriters seminar on the dangers of not realizing how much you suck at dialogue?

The prequels are like Mussolini and Hitler...warnings not to give one man so much power.

Rogue One is probably the worst of them all. Period. That movie has become my litmus test on who to listen to when it comes to movie opinions.

My ranking:

V
IV
VI
III
VII
I
II
Rogue One

My favorite line to laugh at in the prequels:

"Only a Sith deals in absolutes."

Nevermind the fact that Obi-Wan's statement is itself an absolute. At this point in the movie, he had literally seen Anakin slaughtering dozens of 8-year-olds. (And having fun with it, too, I might add. I mean he was doing spin moves and shite )

So despite the fact that he has seen the gruesome murder of many, many children at the hands of Anakin, Obi-Wan still preserves some kind of hope that he can be saved...until Anakin makes a sweeping, blanket statement about his enemies. Then he's a filthy Sith and that's all there is to it.

Boomer check-in: Saw original Star Wars in its debut run at the movies. Wrap around ticket lines. Fun story. Amazing visuals and sound for the times. Nothing like it! Was a happening! Set the standard for future expectations.

FF to now: Whine. Whine. Complain. Whine.

What is missing from all these since the SW original is the stunning impact on the original's original audiences. In other words, we're unrealistic to expect the same gut reaction every time a new SW movie rolls out. The thrill of uniqueness and fresh originality is gone. Thus Sith = TFA. Neither are the original. We are not an audience of SW virgins either, like we were back in the day.

But that doesn't mean we can't still be entertained by these new SW offerings. They are still good, fun stories with incredible visuals and sound, and lots of action.

All that being said, l liked Rogue One better than TFA. More like the original SW "feel" to me. But I liked them both more than enough to want more and more and more.

I don't understand how anyone can watch I-III and argue they are better than Rogue One. I thought Rogue One was a solid movie. It did a lot of things that we missed out on in the OT and made IV a better film - something I would have said was impossible before hand.

I wish so much that Sidious would not be dead and somehow be Snoke! Also wish MAce Windu would be in the new movie as well!

I see your absolute with this:

LINK

As bad as I think Revenge is, I think it's better than VII. I am holding out hope on VIII, but we will see.

If they actually go through with the Avatar the Last Airbender thing with Rey being reincarnated Anakin and no more Jedi, I will be pissed. We get shitty Jedi in the prequels and then no Jedi moving forward. Screw that...why even be Star Wars anymore?

Strongly disagree. We need new villains and new heroes. Although I suspect that it's indeed Darth Sidious.

I don't agree with you but upvoted for an intelligent explanation

With time it has the potential to become as good as Tolkein's mythology

Not a bad list, and I'm sure you have a solid reasoning for putting Rogue One at the bottom but I don't agree with that. But I do agree that II is the worst of the prequels.

I'd go V, IV, VI, VII, III-Rogue One, I, II. Though, I really do and have always liked "Jedi" a lot, I just recognize the others as better films.

I found myself being bored and not really caring about the characters in Rogue One until the end. The droid was awesome, though.

Revenge of the Sith is a bad movie that seemed pretty good because it came on the heels of two even worse movies, and we so desperately wanted to salvage anything out of the prequels. Honestly, the only advantage it has over Phantom Menace is the lack of Jar Jar. Other than that, I'd say Phantom Menace is better movie, and I think Ep 1 is a pretty lousy movie.

Force Awakens was good fun and yes, it recycled a plot (so did Star Wars, for godsakes). But it was essentially a movie to restore faith in the franchise and demonstrate the people in charge could make a competent film again. Mission accomplished.

For the first time in 20 years, I'm excited for the next Star Wars movie.

+1 Ep 1 & 2 are simply awful films. I had issues with Rogue One ( I hated Saw Gerrera) but it's nowhere near as bad as the prequels. Those films deserve every bit of criticism they get .

You'll get no argument from me on any of this. I didn't scale my list, just put them in order as I see them.

What makes "Attack of the Clones" so difficult to watch is that it is such a terrible movie but is so important to the story. So many big plot points and developments delivered in such a shitty package.

I thought Rogue One did some really good things. People always complain about the first hour but I thought it was an excellent display of what life in the galaxy was like under the Empire. That was something we never got from the OT. The OT was a small story (why it is great), but you never really get a sense of how your average being in the galaxy operates under this Empire. You hear how bad it is but you never see it. In Rogue One, you see it.

I also really liked Rogue One's theme of desperation. You get a sense of just how bleak the Rebellion's prospects are prior to the Battle of Scarif. The soundtrack plays right into this as well as Jyn's speech about "taking the next chance, and the next after that." Episode IV's theme is clearly Hope. That theme happens because the desperate actions in Rogue One. The fact that Rogue One actually has a concise theme under which the motivations of the characters is understandable instantly puts it ahead of the mess that is the PT.

I keep hearing/reading this and I really hope that it's complete and utter bullshite. They could have accomplished this with a 100% original story and it would have still been huge.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Rogue One. I would put it 4th on my SW list.
