It’s clearly a purposeful “trend” now: remake things with people of different races (+ sexes aka Ghostbusters/The Burbs), and then when it fails blame it on how America is a racist country etc etc

I can’t speak for everyone who sees this for what it is - but I’d truly be just as certain of politics/race being rooted in the production if someone remade Fresh Prince or Family Matters or “The Wire-West Virginia Meth Edition” with white casts.

Who didn't see this coming? I give it half a season before it's canceled.

“The trouble with Eichmann was precisely that so many were like him, and that the many were neither perverted nor sadistic, that they were, and still are, terribly and terrifyingly normal. From the viewpoint of our legal institutions and of our moral standards of judgment, this normality was much more terrifying than all the atrocities put together.” -- Hannah Arendt, "Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil" (1963)

Is this legitimately a Coogler project or is it one of those deals where they’re paying him for his name and probably used 20 minutes of his time to bounce ideas off of him?

I think he is writing and directing the pilot, and will be the producer or showrunner

It is most certainly his project

So it will 100% be about race

It is all Coogler is capable of

The showrunner is a career race clown. Like all black directors, he doesn't know how to do anything else. What did you expect?

I will say this- the remake of The Wonder Years centered around the black family a few years ago was pretty good I thought. Hate that it just kind of faded away into cancellation.

Now that I’ve said that openly and freely for everyone to see… where do I apply for my Woke Points and White Savior Certification? And what exactly can I use them for?

My issue with the WY remake wasn’t race as much as setting.

WY original run took place in the 60s and was aired in the 80s for the most part.

WY remake took place in the 60s and was aired in the 2010s and 2020s.

The further you separate the setting from the modern day, the less it works for that show.

Think of it like Back To The Future. It swung from 1985 in 30 year periods (1955 and 2015).

If they did a remake that used 60 year arcs (1955 to 2015 to 2075), it wouldn’t work as well because you are skipping whole generations rather than showing three generations of McFlys.

Fair argument. Most definitely see where you’re coming from. It’s like if you took the premise of That 70s Show and made a new one based in the time period that’s equal to the gap between 1976 and 1998 it would be set in 2004 (damn ) so in that regard TW remake might have been a bit better had it been set in the late 80s- early to mid 90s or maybe even the early 2000s.
I get why they wanted to do it in the 60s but the point you brought up now makes me want one based on my era.
