I thought Vader's voice was fine. Not having Peter Cushing voice Tarkin, however, really pulled me out of scenes. Yes, I know he died in '94.

I really enjoyed Rogue One.

The beginning was kind of slow, but it picked up as time went on.

The battle scenes were amazing.

I just saw Rogue One a 2nd time. I have to say it is a better film than TFA...and I loved TFA!

I think it's very obvious from the trailers and just the way the movie was cut that there were extensive reshoots to make the movie appeal more to the people who grew up on Star Wars. Ultimately to the huge detriment of the film.

They saw a commercial "failure", or at least not as big as it could be, if the movie was left as a standalone with little-no fan service,

Just got out. Loved it. Very well done.

Only gripe is the amount of Vader time. And I wish they could've dubbed James Earl Jones' lines a bit to sound younger, but not a huge deal.

Loved the Tarkin CGI, and I loved K2SO.

This...except I didn't mind Vader's limited screen time.

I came in expecting as much. No problems there. Heck, I wasn't expecting much more than a short cameo.

My issues with the film are the things that were cut out. I found it hard to connect to the characters. Still enjoyed the movie greatly over all

How so? Honestly, I think most characters were developed well-enough, and we knew they were all going to die before going to the movie. That fact alone makes connects me to them as I know they gave birth to Luke, Han, Obi-Wan, and Chewy's cause.

This where cannon comes into play. His character, Saw Gurrera, play a pretty significant role in the events leading up to Rogue One. He was featured in the Clone Wars series and the novel, Catalyst. He's basically an extremist within the Rebellion. He and Rebellion leadership were at odds early on because of his terrorist activities despite both having the same goals.

Spoiler:

At the end of Catalyst, he is tasked with relocating and watching over the Erso family.

This is going to be an issue moving forward with Star Wars. They are weaving plots and characters across different mediums (TV, Novels, Film) which will leave some fans confused. However, the payoff is pretty great if you take in all of it.

Reading Catalyst before watching Rogue One really makes a huge difference in viewing the film. I knew the foundation of the story from the opening credits.

I'm sure the background helped but it wasn't necessary to understand and enjoy the story. I haven't watched clone wars or rebels, or read any books, but it was clear just from the movie who Saw was, how he was different from the rebellion, and how that philosophical conflict affects the rest of the movie. I thought his character added a lot to the movie and worked well.

I'm sure they will have more of a back story of Saw Guerrera once the Han Solo movie is made. Supposedly Felicity Jones is under a 2 picture contract with Disney/Star Wars. So we will see that time frame from when she got rescued by Saw until the time she got locked up.

Half the shite in the trailers was cut out completely or reshot to not include it.

The most glaring thing is obviously the training that Jyn got from Saw Gererra that we never see a second of. Instead they decided to show things like a blind cartoon octopus being used as a truth serum.

This movie seemed to originally start out as a character piece on Jyn Erso, which then evolved to something very different, with various scenes cut out completely that would have tied the movie together better.

Watched Sunday night, not going to read 30 pages of bickering, my 2 cents....

I learned I like my Star Wars with a heavy dose of the Force and at least 2 Skywalkers. This, to me, was not Star Wars.

Movie was visually (aside from Tarkin and fleshbot Leia) and audibly stunning. Beautiful sets and cinematography work. I liked the droid and the monk and his protector, not that we know a damn thing about any of them, aside from the fact that the droid was reprogrammed. There were also a TON of easter eggs for Star Wars enthusiasts, and it was fun to recognize them.

Aside from that...

Forest Whitaker. WTF. Why was this guy in the movie? They could've shown that there was a terrorist element of the resistance much more effectively than using a weezing vader knockoff armed with a brain eating squid. Terrible.

Aside from Cassian being a hardtack intelligence officer in the resistance, I know NOTHING ABOUT HIM. LITERALLY NOTHING. Waste of a talented actor.

Mads freaking Mikkelsen was onscreen for 8 minutes. 8 god damn minutes. WTF, terrible.

Jyn Erso. SO hot. SO hollow as a character. So she sees her mom killed and dad taken. She's raised by Vader ripoff, she's abandoned by Vader ripoff, then she's in jail and gets broken out and falls in with some guy named Cassian who shoots people then doesn't shoot people, but she wants to save her deddy so she helps them and doesn't save her deddy but wants to bring down the empire's super weapon by utlizing the flaw her deddy put in the super weapon and needs the plans to do so but this whiny bitch in a white cape keeps trying to shoot her...

Whiny White Cape guy was a good whiny white cape. Good performance, but there was NOTHING behind his character aside from him being bitched by Tarkin. Meh.

And CGI Tarkin. Why? Just why?

Man. I just really didn't enjoy this movie. Have absolutely zero desire to watch again, which is about as un-Star Warsy as it gets.

Empire
A New Hope
Force Awakens
Return of the Jedi (favorite as a child)
Revenge of the Sith
This "Star Wars" movie
remaining shite prequels.

I think you hit it on the head. To me, the first 2/3 of the movie was mostly a mess. The last act was good, bordering on great.

I felt the same way after my first viewing. Watched it again last night with friends, and I enjoyed it a lot more. The first 20 mins or so are still disjointed, but the rest of the film is great.

I really liked it, but the guy above has some good points

In the end the CGI just killed those two characters. You can hire someone and with makeup and voiceover get them 90% close. That would have been much better

Also the very last scene rubs me the wrong way. So all hell Is breaking loose and Vader is about to wipe out your fleet and you, you barely escape, a Rebel runs to you and hands you the plans, and you and the pilots are just calm as can be and you just turn around and say "Hope" and then fly off. WTF

I'd have a pile of shite coming out of pants
