Had a blast with this movie. Score was subpar, but story was good and I loved the nostalgia.
K2 was awesome.
Vader's scene at the end finally did him justice. He was more terrifying than he has ever been in that small fight scene.

Really enjoyed it. Best space battle of any of the films IMO. Final Vader scene is a nerdgasm.

OMG the CG with Tarkin and Leia was honestly so awful. And the KEPT showing Tarkin.

Just got back K2 was great, good movie but you knew who had to die because this lead up to IV. It was a good movie and worth going to see but I wouldn't call it a great movie.

I didn't think Tarkin was bad.

I have nothing against the plot on first impression, but the characters are all shite and totally unrelatable. I mean, was this intentional since they all die in the end? I feel nothing when any of them are killed.
Seriously anytime K-2SO shows up on screen, it just seems like a completely different writer wrote him, and it's probably due more to Tudyk being good at improvising.
The biggest missed opportunity is the pilot. What was he supposed to be? It's obvious to make him a drunken Irishman or German to get captured and do dumb shite. Instead they just decide to make him a minority for no reason, give him no personality like the rest of the characters, and continue with their SJW bullshite.
In Star Wars, there's usually fricking 4 comic relief characters in one way or another. Tudyk and Vader's scenes plus the beach scene are the only savior for this bullshite.
2.5 out of 4 stars
Ranking them:
1) Empire Strikes Back
2) The Force Awakens
3) A New Hope
4) Return of the Jedi
5) Revenge of the Sith
6) Rogue One
7) The Phantom Menace
8) Attack of the Clones

I like the force awakens more too. I agree about the characters, felt nothing when they died. Best scene is the ending. 6/10 for me. They needed to expound on more stuff in the beginning for me.

Save for K2, do any of these characters pass the Plinkett Test? All Force Awakens and OT characters pass the test. I mean maybe Jyn... but that's it.

Took me out of the movie completely. I can't gloss over it even if I'm wearing nostalgia goggles. Score was also very forgettable.
Loved K2

The characters were bad, but the battle was absolutely bananas.
Possible best battle in SW filns saved a movie I was really not enjoying.
Basically it was a movie in service to one fricking outstanding set-piece.

Totally agree. That was awesome.
I thought Tarkin was really well done.
Leia was not, but it is hard to do super smooth porcelain skin in CGI I would imagine. Fortunately that was very brief.
I think it was better than Rouge One

I totally agree with your assessment

It was okay, a lot of fun at times and heavy handed at others

I love how people are saying besides the battle scene the movie sucks. Well no tricking shite. That was the focal point of the movie.

Well this movie is just as good as a BJ.
This movie was bad arse and that small fight scene at the end with Vader did him justice. He's supposed to be the scourge of the universe and they made him look fricking terrifying.
That space battle was awesome as hell to watch and seeing the power of the death star with 2016 movie magic is some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
Gyn was so badass in this movie but I thought there was some huge plot holes as to what happened to her during the 15 years from Krennic taking her father and Gyn being brought to the rebel alliance. But she was in every sense of the word a hero and was the gas to the flame of the already burning resistance.
I loved seeing Bail Organa, he's definitely aged right for this move after the prequels as this is supposed to be 20 years after the revenge of the sith and Palpatine and Vader take over. I cringed a little bit when he said that he was going back to Alderaan.
I thought Saw was going to do some more but I guess he was nothing more than a plot device.

I do want to add that I never thought it was preachy, which I was worried about. I had no problem at all with the cgi and thought that was done pretty good. The battle scenes are awesome and it's a great ending but everything else was very meh.

Not sure why it would be preachy considering it was in the can before the election
