shite, they could’ve made older Theron Helen of Troy
And would’ve been fine.

True. She's more in the line of what most people visualize when they think of Helen. A classical beauty.

It's clear that Nolan made it a priority to assemble an ethnically diverse cast, which is fine I suppose, but strangely, I don't see any Greek actors in there anywhere. If there are, they are in minor roles.

I don't think she is entirely unattractive, but she's playing a character who is supposedly the most beautiful woman in the world. So beautiful that she started a war. I don't think they did a great job of casting here.

Diane Kruger didn't come close to fitting that bill either.

She was about as good as we can produce for that ranking. She was fine as frog hair back in those days, and gets naked in the director's cut.

I’ve never been less excited for a Nolan movie.

Costumes, armor in particular, not even close to period accurate.

The palace looks grimy and dirty- maybe this is explained as the suitors destroying the Ithaca palatial complex- but why is there a recent trend of showing everything historical as dirty? This would have not been the case in Mycenaean palaces. They would have been beautiful, well kept, and clean likely up to the collapse.

But the worse sign is when I heard Nolan state he leaned heavily on the most atrocious and what should be criminal translation of a work that has proven over millennia to be outstanding and in no need of any “modern updates”

Zendaya as Athena is ridiculous. Helen of Troy being black is just stupid. Tom Holland as Telemachus looks to be a good choice.

Skipping this one

“Let’s go” is another one. They have to start doing dialect and speech correctly in movies like this again. There’s just no excuse for it. fricking lazy

This will probably be well acted and will look good on screen, but knowing what a real Odyssey epic could be just makes this look disappointing.

I love all the people online hating on the American accent and saying it should be a British accent. The book was written in Greek a Greek accent would be different from British/English.

The British accent has been the accepted "international" accent for decades

Trying to make it American, especially with the colloquialisms used, makes it much more low brow and less sophisticated.

This isn't a new thing. This was a big deal with movies like Valkyrie (when Tom Cruise did an American accent around a bunch of Brits throwing heaters) and the Kevin Costner Robin Hood (which wasn't high art but still got criticized for it).

I predict that the Wishbone version will be far more memorable than the McG/Nolan version.

And everyone loves Nolan movies based on how closely they stick to very old, very dumb traditions.

I spotted John Leguizamo, what?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not liking Damon in the role of Odysseus.

Eh I disagree.

I agree that was awful but to me was awful not just because Cruise was the lone American accent but none of the others were German. They'd go from speaking in actual German, back to their British and American accents. It could have been semi easy to have the actors adapt a German accent to stay authentic. Nobody was complaining "Why isn't Cruises accent British??" The fact that it wasn't German is what was bad.

If someone is complaining that Damon doesn't have a British accent that's just kind of ridiculous, they should be complaining the British accents aren't right either.
