I think it's an indication of quality that will affect viewership long-term

If Oppenheimer can meet the diversity requirements to win Best Picture, any movie can.

It was all behind the scenes stuff that made them eligible and both the Academy and the studio got heat from the usual suspects because of it

Christopher Nolan is also the most overrated director ever.

Hes done more great films than average films

Memento
Interstellar
The Prestige
Batman Trilogy
Dunkirk
Inception

These two plus Insomnia are probably the Nolan movies I’ve seen the most. I really liked his smaller scale, smaller budget films that relied on suspense. None of his blockbusters have scratched that same itch.

Cyclops and stone statues coming to life, etc

It's very interesting to me how you have British actors in a film about ancient Greece adopting American accents. It's also very interesting how Nolan opted for anachronistic words like "dad" in his screenplay to go along with the anachronistic armor.

I don't like that idea at all.

That said, "The Odyssey" has all of the elements for Nolan to make a very watchable movie I loved the film versions from my childhood.

The effects by Ray Harryhausen were rudimentary by today's standards, but his claymation and stop action were state of the art at the time. Cyclops and stone statues coming to life, etc. I thought those movies rocked, and I could buy a ticket for 25 cents.

Yeah. I know, but they had sound and were even in color...

The face that launched 1000 Escalades has been confirmed.

Anybody who claims this is gonna be a massive hit is only coping. This is gonna fail Bigly.

The Hamilton crowd may love it, but it’ll draw in about as much as Black Panther 2

the "Dad" line still concerns me far more than the Lupito cast as Helen

Yeah there are lots of signals screaming this movie will have issues having nothing to do with casting.

These were discussed with the first trailer at length, but the new one adds even more. The quality of this film is way up in the air at this time, ignoring any actor involved.

And the reunion between Odysseus’ fellow king Menelaus (Jon Bernthal)

Now we have Bernthal in this movie? This is becoming a cheap marvel adaptation to the Odyssey.

And in a twist, Nyong’o also plays Helen’s sister, Clytemnestra

They couldn't have bothered to cast a 2nd person?

The previews are turning the Odyssey from an epic poem to a current day tragedy.

The question now becomes, will it become another “cultural divide” issue where one side defends it to death despite its flaws?

If the only aspect that is hyper-analyzed initially is the casting, and that results in a “right vs left” division, will it be defended and will its ratings be elevated simply due to that?

That is almost always the trajectory in these situations.

I expect very high critic ratings no matter how good or bad the movie is.

And when its box office closes and its clearly a hit (lets say $800M -$1B) will you go away forever and rid us of your stupidity? Put your money where your annoying mouth is.

Imagine following up the last sentence with an even dumber one. Black Panther 2 did $860 million dollars worldwide, had the highest US November opening of all time and was the #1 movie at the domestic box office for 5 weeks.

And before your witty retort, I am not a fan of Black Panther 2, but unlike you I dont let my dislike for things get in the way of facts.

Bernthal was featured in the first teaser over a year ago.

Another choice I do not understand. Helen and Clytemnestra are half sisters. They are not twins.

What do you mean now? He was in the first teaser trailer. Pretty sure his voice is the first thing we heard from this movie.

I think this is where the discourse ends up, regardless of the quality of the movie.

I don’t like Bernthal as an actor, his face and voice is annoying. I can only see him as a supporting actor in a modern military film

Everyone in the YouTube comment section is just clowning the movie
