If the only aspect that is hyper-analyzed initially is the casting, and that results in a “right vs left” division, will it be defended and will its ratings be elevated simply due to that?

That is almost always the trajectory in these situations.

In this economy, I’m not spending money on a movie I don’t want to see just to boost its ratings on principal.

Like Salmon, I’m more concerned with the writing being a watered down translation.

One of my favorite things of Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet adaptation years ago was the variety of the casting but the use of the actual lines as Shakespeare wrote them.

I like Bernthal.

But my initial comments when the first teaser came out was that it felt like the Punisher in the Odyssey.

I'm pretty bummed.

I'll probably still go see it (unless the initial reviews are just terrible) because I do trust Nolan when it comes to set pieces.

Oh, I’m not talking about ticket sales.

I’m just talking about ratings. They will be boosted or dropped simply to “own” the opposition.

I mean that’s generally a fair predictor of whether a movie is successful. Once you get passed that first weekend.

I don’t know that anyone really takes seriously TV ratings anymore given their lack of streaming inclusion. And even with Nielsen’s streaming ratings, they can wax and wane on platform availability and a lot of other variables.

He means the rotten tomatoes critic ratings

I think he’s right that the critics will boost this because of what Nolan did with it

Sure. Critics almost always have an agenda.

Which is why you go with the audience score instead (especially once it amasses enough ratings to offset any trolling).

I've never seen The Walking Dead or Punisher and really have no desire too, but I like Bernthal in pretty much everything I've seen him in.

Wolf of Wall Street, baby Driver, Sicario, The Accountant, Fury, The Pacific, We Own This City, His and Hers (show sucked but he was good in it), Ford v Ferrari.

Was seriously one of the dumbest endings that I personally have ever seen. Like so bad i just laughed at how dumb it was. Would have been halfway decent if they would have just kept the original twist, but they had to throw in a second twist to make it even worse.

Why? Because a Nolan movie somehow might have met reasonable expectations?

Oh, and Black Panther?

BP - 1.35 billion global

BP2 - 859 million. Global

I’m good with my assessment of 2 as a disappointment.

I’m not expecting the marvels level of failure, but it’s not gonna be great.

I would never do this to myself, but it would be slightly interesting to watch the show again just to point out the non-sensical actions by the entire cast that is not the murderer. Pretty much every conflict was inserted to divert attention from the murderer.

Sure, but I’m am referencing the boosting of “ratings” on sites like IMDB and RottenTomatoes.

Which will show the disparity between critic scores and audience scores, which should be another indicator of whether it’s good or not.

ETA: The Last Jedi is a good example of this. I don’t know anyone who thinks it was good despite a high critic score.

Shame on Nolan for trying to retrofit DEI pieces into the film to satisfy libs. I honestly thought that he was above that and would shoot for making the best film available.

Two thumbs down.

There wasn’t one single person on Earth back then that had a haircut like the one Robert Pattinson has in this trailer. Not one.

Are you under the impression that the odyssey is a true story?

What were the hairstyles in Ogygia, Aeaea, and Land of the Lotus eaters back then?

I get that Nolan has avoided woke Hollywood but maybe that was the cost of getting the funding for his pet project. In about 99.9% of cases, if the casting looks woke, it is.

Casting Page as anything heroic is laughable. Not saying there isn't a legitimate spot in the movie for Page and no I don't for a second believe Page will be Achilles.

However, it is a bit suspect that several people have been hired for the movie but their actual role isn't posted in IMDB. Shooting is done. They know the cast. Shooting ended August of last year.

I've liked almost all of Nolan. Tenet not as much as the other but I've seen it a few times. I didn't like Insomnia but I've always felt I needed to go back and watch it again.

Will this be Nolan's Megalopolis? Or will it be another great Nolan film? I lean toward another great film. Casting has me more cautious than normal.
