So in the post I responded to when you said "Some of you" I was somehow meant to be excluded from the "you"?

I just went to your post history. I stopped at three pages, I'm sure it goes on and on, where 905 of your posts are arguing about a movie that you haven't seen and every post was on the negative side. So yea, safe to say you're going to keep complaining about a movie you haven't seen, you've been doing it for a while now.

Saw it over the weekend.
i went into it with the desire to like the film. Not because i am a big fan of Nolan (i haven't seen a fair number of his works) but because i am a fan of the Odyssey. For me, it for the most part delivered. I think the casting controversy's are well overblown. At no time did the movie make an attempt to point out these choices and give them special highlight, they we just choices. As much i dislike Leguizamo's take on representation in hollywood and his obvious hypocorcy of playing a greek here, i will give him credit for a role very well done. The weakest performance was probably Elliot Page. While not bad, not particular good either. Maybe its a me thing, but their voice is incredibly distracting. It would take me out of the moment just to wonder what they did to make themselves sound so....artificial.
I thought performance all around were very solid. The sound and grandeur of many scenes really sold the epic nature of the tale. I really enjoyed the showing of the Trojan horse and how it worked, as well as the burning of Troy. A unique take on that part of the story.
The cyclops scenes and the Circe scenes were a little overhyped.
All in all very solid. 7.5 or 8/10 for me. I did see some people say they thought it was a little boring. I guess i can see that. it can be a slower movie at times, but that wasnt a bad thing in my eyes. I thought it paced well.

Are you ESL? I was directly putting you in a group that apparently doesn't think biased positive reviews exist. You later said you understand that they do. You (and several others) only mention the negative bias for whatever reason so I wasn't sure.

I might keep talking about a movie on a forum dedicated to talking about movies. If you want to call that complaining, fine, we can use grade school language. I'm complaining, you're whining about it because apparently you just want a sunshine pumper board where everybody agrees with you.

I thought the movie was great. Behind prestige, dark knight, interstellar, inception, and Oppenheimer.

Really?
If you want a real score from the public you'd have to get rid of all the 1 star and 10 star reviews and there's no way to do that.
That is not how the Popcornmeter rating works, it is the percentage of 3.5 or above out of 5, these is no 1-10 rating.
You are alluding to removing the review bombing. Thats fairly easy to do if you use the IMDB ratings instead because you can see the distribution of all the ratings.
There are two ways to kinda filter out review bombs:
The first takes about 10-14 days to manifest fully so it is early. With this method you look at the percentage of 1s and 10s in the first weekend. Most review bombs are up front because that is when they have the most impact. Over time the 1 or 10 rating that likely had the biggest review bombing effort will begin to drop, the one that has fewer review bombs behind it will stay level or rise/drop a small amount.
The second method that can be applied any time is to ignore the 1s and 10s completely and compare the 2/3/4 cumulative percentage to the 7/8/9 cumulative percentage. Review bombs are rarely subtle, they don't waste the vote without inflicting maximum impact and very few people read the written reviews from randos.
I didn't consider screenshotting the numbers over the weekend but here are the current numbers.
Using method one the 10s have stayed at almost the exact same percentage (up and couple of tenths) 1s have dropped from 14% to almost 10%.
The second method has 7/8/9 at 47.5% and 2/3/4 at 3.3%.

You're painting in the broadest strokes, about straw men.
Got out of the movie a few hours ago. Loved a few decisions and scenes; liked some others much less. Loved the Calypso framing device, cyclops, Circe scene, and sacking of Troy. Thought Scylla looked dumb. Thought the first 20 minutes were the slowest. Thought the final trial and fight were the worst looking moments in the movie. I enjoyed every major performance, except for Holland. I remain convinced that Corey Hawkins holds the most powerful blackmail materials in history.
Outside of Holland, the Telemachus stuff really suffers in comparison to The Return, which came out less than 2 years ago. That film stages the trial better, and Ralph Fiennes gives a powerhouse performance as Ulysses in it. It also handles Argus better. If this has already come up in this thread, cool and sorry. This is my first time entering.
Was pleased that this does not have the drowned-out dialogue issue. If anything the dialogue in the first act was too pronounced in the mix. Noticed this most during the Penelope/Telemachus palace rooftop convo.
After one viewing, I place this above Inception and Interstellar, what feel like the most obvious comparison points in the Nolan filmography, but it should be noted that I think inception is only dumb fun, and I think interstellar is actively bad.

Watched it tonight. Thought it was good, not great. Worth a rewatch at some point. Honestly, I still prefer the 1997 tv miniseries. Really didn’t care for Matt Damon’s portrayal, and I think they watered down Odysseus’ character. The cyclops scene could have been a lot better. Seemed like they rushed through some of the iconic moments, or just completely left them out. Visually it was another stunning modern motion picture. Favorite part was Odysseus as the beggar, then when he strings the bow and murders all the suitors. Least favorite was the cyclops in the cave. I had really been looking forward to the release for a long time, but all the bullshite surrounding it beforehand kinda left a sour taste in my mouth before watching. So, maybe it’ll sit better with me over time when I eventually do a rewatch. I’m no movie critic so take my opinions as you will. Overall, 6.8/10.0.

That's pretty crazy considering how well liked that scene seems to be. I personally thought it was one of my favorite scenes in the movie. The sound the Cyclops made when the stabbed it the eye was absolutely terrifying and shook the hell out of the theater I watched it in.

Well if nobody agrees with me on that then it’s all good.

I just love when I am reading about what sounds like more than one person and getting confused at the improper English and then realizing I am reading the words of someone who has given into pronoun bullshittery.

Just saw it a second time and it was even better. I was much more easily able to see some of the foreshadowing that Nolan (or Homer?) dropped in there as the story is unfolding earlier on.
I was also able to follow the names and whatnot much more easily.

Honestly a little shocked at how wide the spectrum of reception is....I thought the movie was amazing and while I do expect some general discourse and nitpicking....I simply don't understand some of the takes here. I agree the first 10 minutes or so took a moment to get its footing, specifically with me and my buddies chuckling that Travis Scott himself was the first face we see. But even with that, EPage, and the face that launched a thousand Nissan Altimas....it felt nearly perfect for me. Paced well, each scene and storyline had purpose and meaning...idk. Whatever. I enjoyed it: 9/10
It’s an interpretation. Any Nolan movie has a bit of tilt to it in terms of its world. Batman, interstellar, tenet, inception, etc…
All have some kind of Nolan filter over it. The cast didn’t seem out of place to me once I sort of accepted that this is just an interpretation of a mythical story and stopped trying to think about it as a historical event.

Uh...why would you ever consider the story an "historical event?"

I’m not sure. Ask a ton of posters on this board!

I had never read or knew of the odyssey before this movie. I know it’s been adapted a million times but I had no idea if it was a historical account or something completely fictional.
That’s super ignorant of me but I was outside playing baseball in high school not reading the classics
ETA: when I say I never knew of the odyssey I mean I never knew of its story or contents. I had heard that there was an old set of stories called The Iliad and The Odyssey

Sorry, that was a messy run-on sentence with no punctuation. Very confusing. Could you use more proper English when complaining about grammar rules you clearly don't know very well?
