Did the casting choices hurt the potential of this movie or is comparing it to Batman not a fair comparison?

Certain people hated on the movie so much before hand, most of the time on stuff that ended up being pointless, that there was no way for them to have an unbiased opinion of the movie going in. You can't hate on a movie online everyday for three months straight and then come back after and talk about enjoying it.

Honestly a little shocked at how wide the spectrum of reception is....I thought the movie was amazing and while I do expect some general discourse and nitpicking....I simply don't understand some of the takes here. I agree the first 10 minutes or so took a moment to get its footing, specifically with me and my buddies chuckling that Travis Scott himself was the first face we see. But even with that, EPage, and the face that launched a thousand Nissan Altimas....it felt nearly perfect for me. Paced well, each scene and storyline had purpose and meaning...idk. Whatever. I enjoyed it: 9/10

I agree. It's a slight tigerdroppings bubble though. The movie is receiving high ratings all over by audience and critics. And despite the handful of outspoken ones that were going to hate it no matter what, it's still received mainly positively on here.

I don't think it is that bizarre. Because it is Nolen, you're going to have those that are going to glaze it and overlook its flaws and you're also going to have those that hyperinflate its issues and overlook what it did extremely well. Give the movie a few months and let people see it a second time and I think the standard deviation shrinks.

I agree.

Some of you don't seem to understand that the opposite is true as well.

Have you seen it yet? Or just still just trying to make digs at it in every thread despite not watching it?

I hated a few of his decisions prior to release and I still hated them after viewing. But i also can wait to determine if I like something until seeing it.

Going in with high expectations for a movie made by one of my all time favorite directors is not uncommon.

Two of Nolans last three movies (Dunkirk and Tenet) are two of my least favorite Nolan movies. I went in to both of those with high expectations and was disappointed. That could have easily been the case with this as well, but it didn't disappoint.

So yea, go kick rocks.

You're talking about human nature. Somehow in your fantasy world the people who didn't think it would be good are subject to human nature, the people who bought their tickets a year ago and have been jazzed for six months to go see it are not. Do you really believe that?

I don't go see many movies at the theater so I'll catch it on streaming, but that has nothing to do with the controversy.

“Man I really hope and expect this big movie is awesome. It’s got one of the best directors and a pretty insane cast. I’m hype”

Is much healthier and normal than

“Man I can’t wait until this movie bombs because someone on the internet told me this is a woke mess!”

Some of them actually believe that we're only going go have the latter group.

As I said, if you could weed out the 10 and 1 star reviews you could probably get a decent public snapshot.

Yes, if you make a caricature of your opponent it's easy to paint them as odd and unhealthy.

If you can explain to me why predicting something negative about a movie is somehow fundamentally different than predicting something positive, I'm all ears.

Yea I'm failing to understand the issue with the statement. Both sides make legitimate discussion of the movie difficult because just like the ones that were never going to like the movie, the ones on the other end of the spectrum are pretty incapable of hearing any legitimate complaints of the film. It is pretty standard with any big director movie. To your point, if you removed Nolan's name from the film, those 1* reviews largely go away but a lot of those 5/4* reviews probably go down a level too.

I'm talking about myself seeing as you were obviously implying that I was one of the ones on the polar opposite end. Of course the people that had tickets for months and were jazzed to see it were more than likely going to like it. I never said otherwise.

Ok i look forward to hearing you bitch about people enjoying a movie and being in every Odyssey thread for the next couple of months about a movie you haven't seen. Your insight on the movie and those that have seen it is truly valued by the board I'm sure.

“Predicting” and actively rooting for one of the outcome are different things.

Rooting to see a good movie- pretty normal human experience

Rooting to see a movie fail because of perceived culture war issues - eye rolling worthy behavior

I really wasn't, I'm talking about the bell curve. I don't pretend to know how individuals think.

You'll need to address something I actually said if you want to have a conversation. Quotes usually help.

Correct, but not everybody who had issues with the film predicted it to do poorly. You're taking the extremes and pretending like that's everyone and it's not. Not everybody who loves it is insane and telling people "you're on the wrong side of history" so it would be dishonest of me to act like they are.

Both sides have people doing plenty of "yay, go team" about this movie. People posting ticket sales like they're updating the score for a big game, others are probably posting memes as a version of shite-talking. For the more vocal folks I don't see any difference on either side.

Scathing review from a Greek guy on a channel named after an element of the original story.

Does Nolan not write humor into his films anymore? There wasn’t a single line where characters cracked a smile or chuckled about anything.

Odd nitpick I know, but just realized that after marinating on it.

It was just bleak, I guess is my point
