Anyone else enjoy reading the arguing about this show in these threads much more than the actual show

i thought the ring wraiths were all the kings that got rings

From the Lore.
He gave nine of them to great lords and warriors of Men, including three Númenóreans, and one Easterling king

So it looks like maybe 1 King

He is thinking of a Gandalf line from the films:
quote:

They were once men; great kings of men. Then Sauron the Deceiver gave to them nine Rings of Power. Blinded by their greed, they took them without question, one by one falling into darkness. Now they are slaves to his will. They are the Nazgûl: Ringwraiths, neither living nor dead
EDIT: It was Aragorn, not Gandalf.

Didn't Aragorn say that when they were looking out from the window in Bree?

wasn't trying to be an arse, just had the image in my head of Aragorn looking out of the window while the wraiths were stabbing the pillows when I read that quote.

Not at all. I would rather that have everyone have the correct answer.

I remembered the line pretty clearly, but just had Gandalf's face in my mind for some reason. I ran a search that included "Gandalf" as a search term, and the first result was a site that did NOT give the identity of the speaker. I just assumed that I was correct in thinking it was Gandalf because I had included his name in the search. I should have checked the second result because I purely hate misleading people.

To be honest I was thinking the same thing until I was reading another passage regarding another entry I was looking for.

The writers have made some questionable choices, but Halbrand being Sauron and not a ring wraith or the Witch King himself would be one of the very worst at this point.

Quick question. Is there a reason that the island place is getting washed away or is it just a natural disaster?

It has to do with the Lore in the future assuming it happens.

Man this show is extremely average. Doesn't feel epic in scale like LOTR or GOT.

Am I the only one who has figured this out yet?

What's going to happen is that Galadriel and the Numenoreans are going to defeat Adar and his orcs, and Season 1 will end with them actually crowning Sauron (aka Halbrand) as king over Mordor.

Consider what Gil-galad said to Elrond after Galadriel sailed away, and Elrond had remarked that she was so sure that she would continue her quest to defeat Sauron:

"We foresaw that, if it had, she might keep alive the very evil she sought to defeat."

There's no way that those were idle words. And what does Halbrand actually say when she asks him about the amulet:

"I took it off a dead man." ... which would, of course, be true if Sauron killed Halbrand and assumed his identity.

And yes, Halbrand claims to be a better smith than anyone in that shop in Numenor, which would be unlikely, since Numenoreans lived to lifespans over twice that of lesser humans, and the Numenoreans would have much longer to perfect their craftsmanship. But, Sauron, of course, learned his skills directly from Aulë.

Finally, we have the incredibly rich ways in which Halbrand counsels Galadriel to manipulate people. And manipulating people is Sauron's specialty.

Understanding what is going to happen also helps us to understand what is happening with Galadriel.

In Season 2, we will see her overcome with remorse and grief for what she's done in putting her bitter enemy in power. Elrond will have to do a great deal of counseling.

But this will irrevocably change her character. Having failed so deeply, she will no longer be arrogant and brash. She will become much more patient, understanding, kind, and wise.

Oh, and she will also develop her ability to look into the minds of others, so that she can never be similarly deceived again.

So, for everyone complaining about Galadriel's characterization right now ... be patient. She will be a very different elf next season.

Yes, there is a reason the island sinks into the sea. It’d be a bit of a spoiler to tell, for those who haven’t read The Akallabeth.

I am a fan of lotr both movie and book. But this show needs to pick up the pace or it is going to sink. The average viewer wants to be entertained, so far this show is lacking.
I consider myself not full need but knowledgeable about this story and I am having trouble with the time line etc.

They kind found Sauron out before maybe the end of season 2. There is no way the rings are forged before season 1 is over and if they know he’s Sauron he’s not sneaking up and forging rings with them.

I’ve been very disappointed with this series. The storyline is terrible. Tolkien would be rolling in his grave

I don't think this show's pace is going to appeal to everyone.

I think we're going to be looking at a political intrigue (not modern politics!), more than an action series. We still have to set up the Silvan Elves, it's all been Noldor so far... in comparison, in LOTR and The Hobbit, the only Noldor stuff was Rivendell. Galadriel herself is Noldor, but Celeborn and the people of Lothlorien are Silvan. Legolas' people in Mirkwood are also Silvan, and should view Lothlorien as a separate, rival kingdom, not part of the same overall group.
