That’s what I went with. But Denzel being the killer takes this movie from a 5 to a 7.5. I want to believe.

I thought this was a reference to earlier in the film, after Denzel went to Leto’s apartment and looked around, and Malek asks him if he found a barrette, and Denzel says he might if he had more time to look.

Malek later kills Leto and struggles with the guilt of whether he murdered a regular guy or a serial killer, and Denzel sends Malek the barrette, indicating he went back to the apartment and found it.

He asks him if he found a “red barrette” which is all denzel knows about it.

Denzel later sends him a barrette and then it shows Denzel throwing a multipack of Barrettes in the trash with one missing insinuating that he bought a thing of barrettes and took out the red one and sent it to malek.

Could be he was just trying to put his mind at ease but how would he know to buy the exact same looking barrette as the girl was wearing?

Are you people serious with the Denzel being the killer angle?

He wasn't the killer.

Leto wasn't the killer.

Movie was extremely meh. The director tried to be like Fincher, but he is no Fincher.

Damnit now I might do a rewatch. If Denzel is the killer that makes this movie a lot better.

Spoilers

I thought Denzel wearing the cowboy boots indicated he was actually the killer?

Maybe. I was so damn bored by the movie that I just wanted it to end, so maybe I missed a detail or ten.

I still feel like the movie shows Denzel absolutely fixated on solving the murders, even when no one else is around to witness it other than the audience.

I thought he wore the boots because they had no more evidentiary value after the owner took a plea deal. So it’s just a sick joke that Denzel is actually wearing the killer’s boots and doesn’t know it.

Can you like a movie but still think it was kind 'eh'. I enjoyed watching it but it wasn't a great movie, if that makes sense.

I agree with that. I enjoyed it overall and think I'd get a lot more out of a second viewing, but I also have no desire to go back and watch it again.

For sure. There is actually a good bit to like about the movie. I loved the score, mood, cinematography, the early 90's setting, and most of the acting was pretty good.

The actual story just wasn't that interesting, or satisfying.

Apparently we are supposed to feel good about Sgt. Baxter very possibly murdering an innocent person, with Deke helping him cover it up, and then Deke giving Baxter false validation and clarity with the barrette, while there is probably still a serial killer on the loose.

which is why the ending is dumb

if the killings stop, then they would know Leto was the killer

but what if the killings continue? does Malek's character call Denzel and is like "hey....wtf?"

Yea, that makes sense. That way Denzel doesn’t leave behind his foot prints too.

I kept thinking the same thing.

Also laughed when Denzel started to try and fail Leto/Rami towards the end. There was a shot that showed him from the front windshield turning to merge onto the he freeway, but he never moved the steering wheel.

I told someone that Malek didn't play Freddie, he just played himself and he should give that Oscar back. This movie was if Freddie Mercury was a cop in 1990.

Honestly, it was impossible for me to get past the in-scene editing. It's incoherent. If there is decent cinematography, shots are sequenced in a way that obscures that for me.

I hated this in a way that truly surprised me.

It’s always funny when people see shite that wasn’t there to convince them of some dumb theory. Nothing pointed to Denzel being the killer

It was Denzel trying to rid Rami of the guilt that torpedoed his own career.
