I’m going to watch the next two episodes but this show is bad. The main character is so unlikable and the zombies are the best part of the show.

So, she hated Joel because he killed someone who had to be killed anyway?

That's a tremendous case of the dumbs you got there, boy.

She hated him for lying to him and ellie and then shooting him knowing he had time to get back and say his goodbyes in person.

The even dumber part is not using the radio both groups had to say his goodbyes, just to have more story

E6 highlights the huge difference of having Pedro being a major part of an episode. Bella is serviceable playing off of Pedro and makes Ellie somewhat tolerable. But without Joel, the show has no lead.

I know we've mostly all felt that way, but having Joel back in tow again for an episode truly reinforces that thought.

+1 I think it also shows that Druckmann and Gross need to be more involved with the writing next season. It's obvious that Mazin's writing is the problem right now.

Agreed.

Even though the episode still had some flaws, the story they were trying to tell was conveyed well and you could tell Druckmann and Gross knew what they were going for and how to try to achieve it. I enjoyed the episode.

Much different than when Mazin has been trying to explain the abrupt, out of place, awkward choices and odd writing that have plagued the most recent episodes.

I just feel like the episode could have been told from flashbacks throughout the season

when you have so much story to tell, choosing to use an entire episode to fill us in on why Ellie became a bitch to Joel, seems like an odd choice

it was a needed story to tell, just in a 7 ep season, seems like a more efficient use of flashbacks could have achieved a better emotional effect

They've wasted tons of screen time with useless nonsense.

At least this was a necessary part of the story, but I do agree. I think they went into the season too busy patting themselves on the back, which is pretty obvious from the after-show discussions from the first 5 episodes.

The show still a turd or has it gotten better? The "I'm going to be a dad" episode killed it for me.

It's been decent. Episode 5 had some great moments but you still had more of the cheesy scenes with Ellie and Dina. Last night's episode was all flashbacks. Well-made episode but not the most exciting. JMHO

Honestly, turd for me.

However, last nights episode was probably the 2nd best of the season and truly shows the Joel/Ellie dynamic for how much Joel cared for Ellie. I think it's probably a good standalone episode to watch even if not interested in continuing the series.

IMO - If the point of last night's show was to tell us why Ellie hated Joel, then they wasted much of the 2nd to last show. They could have done that in 5-10 minutes, not 50 minutes

While I don't disagree, I'd rather explore Joel/Ellie relationship and why she hates him and how he thought about her than "So... I'm... going... to... be... a.... dad?!?" nonsense.

But honestly, this whole season has mostly been a disaster with some good moments sprinkled in - that are generally ruined by terrible decisions, nonsensical narratives and a complete lack of cohesion.

They could have cut half the shite this season and added more WLF/Scar and Jeffery Wright, etc.

I don’t think that was the point. She didn’t hate him. She was extremely angry, mostly over her suspicion (subsequently confirmed) that Joel lied to her about what happened in Salt Lake City. At the same time, she also loved him. Their relationship was complicated.

The point of this episode was to show us why she was so angry about Joel’s death despite how their relationship had been strained leading up to it. It’s necessary context IMO, especially when you consider that most of Joel & Ellie’s history together happened during their time in Jackson between seasons 1 & 2.

To that end, I thought it was a good episode. I think they could have reinforced it all by cutting back to Ellie “interrogating” Nora between the flashbacks, but I still think they did a good job.

The problems continues to be the fact that it’s a 7-episode season where it took them until episode 4 to even get to Seattle. Spending only 3 of 7 episodes on the actual events of the main storyline being adapted is a choice that has really impacted the show negatively IMO.

I’m going to finish this season but I highly doubt I’ll check out season 3 when it does come out. These writers are trash. So much wasted screen time in a 7 episode season.

Mazin says they'll need a 4th season to complete the story

quote:

After seeing the way that the story was laid out this season, it feels like if you do another season of seven or eight episodes, you would definitely need a Season 4 to wrap things up in some way. Otherwise, you’d have to have a much longer Season 3.

MAZIN: Yeah, and it would take forever. There are natural perforations in the narrative where you can go, “Okay, let’s tear it here.” I think there’s a decent chance that Season 3 will be longer than Season 2, just because the manner of that narrative and the opportunities it affords us are a little different. The thing about Joel’s death is that it’s so impactful. It’s such a narrative nuclear bomb that it’s hard to wander away from it. We can’t really take a break and move off to the side and do a Bill and Frank story. I’m not sure that will necessarily be true for Season 3. I think we’ll have a little more room there. But certainly, there’s no way to complete this narrative in a third season. Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish it in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome.

This is the Last of Us the TV show, and if you didn't play the games it's ok, but it is only vaguely related to the game, they change and add as they please.
