Are the fat hobbit and Thanos going to do this? Surely they don't need the money as bad as these three, right?
You'd think Short Round would be expensive, too, on the heels of his EEAAO success.

The fat hobbit is the guy on the left.

This definitely seems like a lose lose. It's either going to be too similar to the original which equates to a bad copy, or it's not going to be close enough which equates to destroying a childhood treasure.
I'm not even sure today's kids can even get the core of the movie. You had a bunch of preteens roaming around town unsupervised without a cell phone or tracking. Sure they found a pirate treasure and captured a crime family, but they could have had just as much fun without that back then. I don't think that kind of freedom exists now. Everything is tracked, measured, and evaluated.

See that movie released recently where that daughter travels back to the 80s during her Mom's time and rips everything in the 80s as ignorant, racist, homophobic, clueless Neanderthals....
What movie was this?

It would take a genius level script for this to be halfway decent. 0.0 chance of that happening.

The easiest way to frick up a sequel (especially one made decades after the original film or films) is to change the personalities of the characters in a negative way, make them all losers decades after the events of the original film, or do something unnecessarily drastic that completely undermines previous achievements.
Staying true to the characters is the most important thing. This was the Star Wars sequel trilogy's biggest frick up. We end ROTJ with Luke Skywalker (brave eternal optimist on the path to being the most powerful Jedi ever) to Luke Skywalker (pessimistic hermit who has failed at everything since the credits rolled in ROTJ).

Can’t replace Richard Donner. Sorry, they’re about to poop on your generation’s touchstone.

I would watch just to see Corey Feldman act again in a big picture.

I can see it now, modern day Mikey rolls up to chunk’s house, and chunk makes him do the truffle shuffle.

Just don’t make them have grandkids who go on an adventure. Not sure if I need to feel that old.

I hear they're going to call it "The Grannies".
