Totally missed they made Pa the frick up on drummer's ship. Don't like that at all. Solid episode. Wish the azure dragon scene was longer, but still enjoyed it.

He was bitching at her for taking matters into her own hands when Naomi choked, rather than communicating and waiting for orders.

It wasn’t set up very well. I think it was just a somewhat forced scene so that he could call her part of the crew.

Question for the book readers, why is the reporter still around? I'm just wondering if she got extra screen time because she was popular with fans like Drummer or if she still plays a role at this point in the books.

How she came onto the show made sense and was a key plot element. Most of the sticking around she's done has involved the Rocinante who she's established with and earns her keep by trading information. Now she's on the Secretary's ship?

That in itself isn't crazy but still "make us a video to turn the belters" seems like a plot idea that should have been left on the cutting room floor.

I'm pretty sure in the book peaches got shot twice and Holden saved her. Weird change, if I'm remembering it correctly.

Season 6 has been OK so far, but still hasn't recaptured the magic from Seasons 2-3. The show went off the rails when they went woke in Season 5 and focused on feelings as opposed to action. Naomi and her whole terrorist family are a terrible plotline and should have gotten maybe 1/20th the air time that they have seen since mid season 5. Miller was such a strong character, feels like the show never recovered after he was gone for good from the storyline, along with the removal of really any protomolecule related plot except the Laconia stuff which just seems like an outlier right now. Drummer was a very strong character in the earlier seasons, now they've just reduced her to an emotional outburst machine.

In future rewatchings, I think I'll probably just cut off at mid season 5, maybe even the end of season 3 as season 4 was just OK as well. It just devolved from really strong characters and alien material (protomolecule) in the first few seasons to more of a drama show in the later seasons focused on the female characters too much.

She was a secondary character in book 3, but I don't recall her being in the story after that.

I don't mind her. I think she's been well used as a plot driver since then.

A couple things are bothering me about this season that have been touched on.

Michio Pa was a major secondary character that even had some of her own POV chapters. Now, they've robbed from her story and others to create the amalgamation we know as Drummer, and Drummer is great, but the shows version of Pa is an insult. She was a badass in the book. I'd be fine now if they had left her out entirely.

The relationship that Naomi and Holden have with Clarissa Mao is botched. I don't know if they were trying to give Naomi more depth or more empowerment, but she never had a problem with Peaches. She basically told Jim to nut up and get over it. He was the one that was furious over it.

That alteration created a problem in the last episode. The scene where Clarissa saved Bobby's life - a very similar scene did occur, but Jim saved Clarissa after she got in trouble. That leads us to the limp-dicked scene where Jim "chewed her out".

That didn't happen. After action in the book, Jim went to Clarissa and told her that it was his fault in the first place that she was even in danger. He knew that she had no zero g combat training and didn't have the experience to handle the situation that he put her in. He told her that he was done icing her out, and that if she was going to be on his ship, he would train her.

I'm just not sure why the authors are going along with this. They have almost as much control over this universe as the Tolkien family does over his work.

frick I hate Philip and Marcos so much and featured them so much has annoyed me to hell.

More Bobbie goddammit! And Amos too.

Naomi is just a useless void this season.

I assume these random cold opens with the kid and the birds are leading to…. Something, right?

They're specifically writing Filip in an attempt to make him more likeable and it's hilarious how bad they're failing.

He's a vicious little count that murdered 15 billion people, and the show just wants him seen as some poor little tormented belter boy whose mommy left him.

The kid and the birds are a short story that they've integrated into this season.

Not a short story- I am pretty sure they are the two reanimated kids kept in the lab from Book 8. Apparently they are planning on doing a sequel movie eventually.

Hearing the books don't bring it back either. 5 more episodes, and then we're done? Just terrible. This was my favorite show, hands down, for a good 3-4 seasons. Simply the best Sci-Fi out there currently, easily. Nothing else came close.

Then we got season 5.

Not going to hope for a unicorn to appear and bring back the franchise. Seems nothing is gonna be able to save The Expanse from itself.

frick. Is it that bad? I keep skipping over this season in favor of other things. Sucks, because this is the book with the most action.

They killed off a character because of #MeToo. It was lame, but I get it. They at least attempted to make the character exit with some dignity, on such short notice. But overall, the contrived stories and motivations are just lame and nonsensical.

We go from Dawes, Miller, Ashford and Johnson to Inaros family problems?

And I'm sorry, but this whole Belter revolution thing is so weak. An alien engineered galactic portal opens up, to 1000's of worlds, and people are still 'outraged' over working conditions to the point that they'd gleefully and willingly try to murder an entire planet, with billions of people? I don't buy it. Not even remotely. If you're gonna try to sell me some motivation for a system wide war, at least come with better than 'muh water' and 'greed of the Martian military'. Those credits don't buy jack if there's no civilization to trade with.

The story goes from without doubt THE greatest discovery in all of human history to squabbling over land rights for mining ore? C'mon.

Did Holden disarm the torpedo at the last second in the latest episode and if so WTF? I wasn’t quite clear on that. Maybe he didn’t want to kill Philip in front of Naomi, but what a terrible call if true.

He did. It was displayed on the HUD of his helmet authorized by J Holden. I assume that to be his motivation.

Totally agree. Well said. Went from a sci Fi western thriller with protomolecule and endless planets, to a Naomi family soap opera. This show ended for me mid season 5. Thanks Amazon for frickin up a great show. This is close to game of thrones as far as killing a show goes.

Why they are choosing to focus the storylines on the internal struggles of a teenage terrorist, abs the emotions of a mother who abandoned her family I do not know.

I'm sure if you put your mind to it, you can come up with a reason or two...
